(10-05) 16:21 PDT CUPERTINO -- A truck driver at a Cupertino quarry opened fire on other workers early this morning during a workplace safety meeting, killing three men and wounding six others before escaping, authorities said.
The suspect, Shareef Allman of San Jose, also allegedly tried to carjack a woman a short time later before shooting and wounding her, police said. He is still at large and was last seen on foot, and a manhunt involving numerous police agencies, the FBI and the U.S. Marshal's Service was under way this afternoon.
Police said Allman is 45 years old, but public records list him as 49. Neighbors at the apartment complex where he lives described him as religious and outgoing, and expressed shock that he was suspected of gunning down colleagues.
The first shooting happened at about 4:15 a.m. at the Lehigh Southwest Cement Permanente Plant at 24001 Stevens Creek Blvd., a limestone-mining operation and cement plant in the foothills above Cupertino. ...........(more)
