Plans for Occupy Charleston, a local version of the Occupy Wall Street protest, took shape tonight during an organizational meeting of about 75 people at the Unitarian Church on Archdale Street.

Nick Rubin of the Charleston Labor Council said local unions are “overwhelmingly positive” in response to Occupy Charleston. Phil Noble of the South Carolina New Democrats said he also is a supporter.

Charleston attorney William Hamilton said he would assemble a legal team so Occupy Charleston would have one if needed. He urged the group to target bus riders for membership.

“These are people who are really on the edge and they know something is wrong,” Hamilton said.
