17. Stewart Copeland of The Police said |

Stewart Copeland of The Police said that no matter how well he argued a position, Sting could write a song that would cut to the heart of the matter better than any argument could.
I guess its the same with political cartoons.
"Russians"
In Europe and America, there's a growing feeling of hysteria Conditioned to respond to all the threats In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you I don't subscribe to this point of view It would be such an ignorant thing to do If the Russians love their children too
How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy There is no monopoly in common sense On either side of the political fence We share the same biology Regardless of ideology Believe me when I say to you I hope the Russians love their children too
There is no historical precedent To put the words in the mouth of the President There's no such thing as a winnable war It's a lie we don't believe anymore Mr. Reagan says we will protect you I don't subscribe to this point of view Believe me when I say to you I hope the Russians love their children too
We share the same biology Regardless of ideology What might save us, me, and you Is if the Russians love their children too

20. I always loved that song. |
|
I grew up in the twilight of the Soviet empire. Lots of songs stuck out in this manner. Billy Joel's 'Leningrad'. Scorpion, Wind of Change.
Some good stuff. Examples I usually use in the face of people who think art has no social value.

29. I heard that song and thought |

Isn't it more important to wonder if the Russians love the children of other lands. This song came out about the same time the Russians had been accused of dropping bombs disguised as toys to maim and kill Afghan children. Just sayin'

14. Disposable plastic makes it possible |
|
Another reason to thank BIG OIL -- if they're not leaking directly into the ocean, their products will eventually end up there.
How long before we switch over to 100% to biodegradable plant-based packaging instead?! That would have a significant impact in reducing ocean trash.

16. In small numbers it wouldn't be happening. |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 01:56 PM by Gregorian
This seems to be over the heads of most people. They cannot grasp that in smaller numbers we wouldn't be using modern materials, and too many of them. But the real issue is the number of people doing it. We could still be using wood. But our numbers got to be so large, we deforested our supplies. Then came whale oil. Then petroleum. Then nuclear. It's all about staying below the planet's resource equilibrium.
It's the population, stupid.
Great cartoon.
I'm beginning to think it was all meant to happen. Ipads. IBM. Carbon fiber. Our brain has the capacity to do some amazing stuff. We just couldn't stop breeding. And from all of the engineers I've worked with, I can say we are good at creating, but we don't know when to stop.

But it seems that lately people are getting it. Thanks for being intelligent. And thanks for the reply. It does help. I'm sure you know what I mean. It's hard to endure this. It's hard to watch. It's hard to speak up and be shot at.
