Pardon me, dear Democratic Pary leadership, but I won't take your survey.
Edited on Sat Jan-15-11 02:25 PM by blondeatlast
This survey is precisely what has gone so terribly wrong with our leadership--note the frankluntzesque phrasing ("reform") and the fact that my own opinion on these matters is not important--just which issue should carry the most weight.

Below, copied directly from the survey, is what twisted my Spanx (text in italics is mine).
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
How important would you rate the following issues?

Job creation and strengthening the economy: The HOW matters.
1 Least Important 2 3 4 5 Most Important

Health insurance reform: The HOW matters.
1 Least Important 2 3 4 5 Most Important

Clean energy: The HOW matters.
1 Least Important 2 3 4 5 Most Important

Education reform: The HOW matters.
1 Least Important 2 3 4 5 Most Important

Wall Street reform: The HOW matters.
1 Least Important 2 3 4 5 Most Important

Immigration reform The HOW matters.
1 Least Important 2 3 4 5 Most Important
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Most importantly, the handy dandy little textboxes at the end don't ask for my opinion on these issues, nor for any other suggestions I might have about issues. Also, we aren't able to submit the form unless the little checkboxes are filled out.

So I ask all dedicated Democratic Party members, whether you are fans of the current leadership or not, to join me in NOT taking the survey they just e-mailed. The opinions of DUers should absolutely matter to the Party--this is still an overwhelmingly Democratic Party website. Maybe, just this once, they will pay attention.

Edit: I removed the link because it contains some identifying markers but I'm sure most DUers will know what I'm talking about.

Edit the second: THEY DIDN'T ASK FOR MONEY--I will give them that much.

2. Yes, this is very cut and dried but I can't advocate not trying to get our voice heard in any way.
Any means possible right? Why not fill out the survey AND email your representitives and the DNC websites? Write paper letters? Post on more message boards? Hit the pavement for your cause? Not speaking out is NEVER the way to get your voice heard.

3. I do that. What's "education reform"? Privatizong schools? "Health insurance reform"?
Edited on Sat Jan-15-11 02:18 PM by blondeatlast
I'd like insurers reformed right out of medical care.

But when it comes to my opinion about Party directionIthey won't let me offer anything.

6. Tell them why you don't wish to take it
otherwise they will not know.

To be perfectly clear Bernie Sanders as an Independent represents my interests far more than the DNC or DLC. The Parties are about getting money and power instead of about keeping average Americans prosperous. Had it been about the USA we would not have sold our nation to Mexico and China and waged costly wars in the Middle East.

13. Contact info

I've experienced the same frustrations where they attempt to offer you a simplified poll, while as another poster on this thread said the truth that their real motive is about more money. It is questionable if they really want to hear from members. I've received the same thing from elected officials. Then I send them an email under separate cover and explain what I don't like about the poll.

Correspondence from individuals is like grains of sand on a beach. It takes a lot to make a difference, but each email or letter carries weight.

4. If I get the survey, I will reply. If I want to clarify I will contact somebody or attach a note

To me, urging democrats not to take the survey is similar to those politicians who urged their constituents not to answer the census.

11. I trash those too and tell them to stop sending me surveys when they're not interested
in my opinion, just push-polling to twist the results into support for doing what they planned to do all long, regardless of our objections.

I'll take their poll seriously when ending the war, punishing war criminals and getting our money back from corporate thieves are listed as options.

14. They don't want to hear that because
those represent some of their biggest donors. Average people are sheeple to be sacrificed.

15. I send them back unmarked with a note stating
that I donate to the individual candidates, not them. Usually, they do ask for money. I'm surprised they didn't this time.

20. They've stopped sending them to me--guess I sent too many back
covered with complaints that they failed to ask about MY priorities (starting with election reform and media reform).
