I don't even care if they decide to ditch the $5 charge. I'm F***ing gone. Up untill now I've been lazy. My direct deposit, automatic bill pay, I even have memorized my account number. They had the "keep the change" program which if you didn't know was an incentive to use your debit card. basically when you charged it, they would take the remaining change to get to the next dollar and put it in your savings account, and they would match 10%. seemed like a good deal. aparently was fairly profitable for all involved.

Then there was the little thing of them processing the largest transaction first. This would in effect maximize the over draw fees. you see if they take out the larges sum first, then all following smaller transactions made them a nifty $35 a piece. I got smart on that one, I opted out of their "Service" that alows me to avoid the "embarasment" of having my card declined should I not have enough cash in the account. Over the last 3 years, I only had my card declined once, and the "embarasment" was well worth the $35 X 5 or 10 transactions that it would have otherwise cost me.

This was it BofA, this is the last straw. I'm done with your stupid games. You can't apoligise, you can't tell me that you'll stop drinking, and beating me up, and you can't take the food of my kid's plate to pay for your drugs any more. I'm leaving you, and I'm taking the house, the car, and the money with me.

I do this not only for me and my family, but in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. I do this for all of Americans that you have robed through fee's and bail outs, and now this $60 a year charge for doing nothing more then holding our money. We all have the option to walk, and I am walking. I hope the rest of America joins with me in saying good bye, and good ridence.

1. The funny thing about the $5 is it was just fine with people
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 03:22 PM by Riftaxe
who whine now, when the merchant had to bite the bullet on those fees, but now that merchants have successfully lobbied for price controls...

11. Does this really help the merchant?
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 03:37 PM by DaveJ
It's my understanding (could be wrong) that BofA will not charge the $5 if you use the credit option at the store, which would then cost the merchant 2% (or whatever). So actually the merchant will be harder hit because people will be using credit more often.

I dunno though. I've asked cashiers at many shops if they prefer me to use credit or debit, and I got blank stares back every time. They had no idea what I was talking about. Maybe I'm clueless. Don't they charge a certain percent to the merchant for using credit, not debit?

Edited for clarity:
Credit = merchant pays 2% (nobody cares)
Debit = Customer pays $5/mo (a travesty!)

shifted?

I just find it funny as hell that when mom and pops got the shaft no one gives a shit, but god forbid, the cost gets moved to the customers...

The argument is really against price controls, but no one who is to busy whining will ever pay attention to that.

Are price controls good when you do not see them, then the OMG end of the world when you don't (all about $5 monthly, which is a pittance to 2%)?

Congress, by sleight of hand and avoiding the discussion introduced price controls, the fucking whiners are now seeing the results, and *surprise* whining...what can ya do about it?

Point out that consumers lack the education of a retarded Mentally disabled 7 year old when it comes to how the world works?

There are many valid reasons why price controls do not work, but heavy regulation does (well thought out regulation, openly debated, not passed in the middle of the night like 'if we don't pass "health care reform" the insurance companies might lose profits' types of regulations).

24. I didn't even know that the swipe fee was up to half a buck. I thought it was a quarter.
I'm not ok with merchants getting screwed any more then I am with getting screwed my self, but no one told me, and I always had better things to worry about. OWS has shed light on a lot of roaches, and now I'm doing my personal best to step on as meny as I can.

BTW I don't appreciate being compaired to a Mentally disabled 7 year old just because I have a buissy life just like every one else. I'm now taking a small step to help my self, and my country. The least you could do is not bash me for it.

4. you'll be happy you did, and wonder why you didn't do it earlier....
I ditched BoA about ten years ago, joined a local credit union. Great service, and I'm an owner, not just a number.

9. Like I said, I'm Lazy. That is what BofA is depending on. Americans are lazy.
But now I'm Pissed. I've wanted to switch for a wile, but it wasn't convienent. I'm not thrilled for the merchants paying for the fee's either, but it was so in the background that I didn't really notice. Now I see the whole picture, and I am disgusted. I wish I had switched earlier. Better late then never I guess.

18. Been with mine for 20+years ...
have my debit card and a credit card with them ... no others.

Sadly, my mortgage is with BoA. They bought it from Wachovia, who bought it from Countrywide, who bought it from a local "community bank" (sadly, the rates at the credit union have never been competitive).

Is there a "fee" to cancel an account? I assume there is a fee for the cashier's check.

14. B of A will fail: I dumped Bof A last Jan after way too many Over draft charges for that
very practice. These Banksters are going down with their overload of toxic mortgages that they chose to take on when they acquired Countrywide Mortgage - a truly criminal enterprise. I predicted that Washington Mutual would fail in June 2008 when I left that bank because of their overload of risky mortgages and nasty bank practices. BofA in on the same path.

If for no other reason, get the hell out of B of A so you don't get caught with them holding and losing your money.

17. I dumped BofA years ago when they screwed me on a CC
They had taken over the card from the previous bank. It wasn't more than a few months until they screwed me for late fees. One month I didn't get a bill but didn't notice. The next month I had the outrageous charges for a late fee. I figured, no problem. mabey I inadvertently threw out the bill with junk mail. Two days after I paid the next months bill, I received the previous months bill.
Customer service was totally unapologetic so I cancelled the card, cut it up and sent it back. Found out not long after that they were trying to get like $150 in interest on like a $2 balance for a card she hadn't had or used for years. Fortunately I got her out from under that.
