The Jobs Plan is a modern day WPA plan... |
|
I admit that it has some things that the original WPA did not have, to my knowledge. That is taxcuts.
However, the infrastructure jobs part is very similar to the WPA. It will put people to work. It is not a huge program but it is a good first step.
The taxcuts are in there to try and get Republican support. That is a political reality not necessary with the original WPA plan.
But, if the political reality changes and the Congress changes, we can create more jobs as they are needed.
Also, these expenditures have to be paid for, unlike the wars or special programs of George W Bush just a few years ago. The Repubs are doing everything within their power to handcuff this President and he is offering everything he can to get them to agree to something.
Now, we have the gall of John Boehner saying the President is "campaigning" instead of back in Washington "negotiating"? What a joke! Those folks are a waste of good oxygen.
Just my opinion.

Reid and company want to kill it. They never expected to actually have to work as the opposing party to their GOP friends.

3. Why is Reid not coming out and talking to us about his opposition. |
|
Give us a reason. I'm so pissed at him right now. He's a weasel sometimes.

4. Reid doesn't want to vote for the tax cuts or the trade treaties... |
|
Obama thought he could get some Republican support with those in the bill. Unfortunately, the Repubs only support those parts of the bill. Reid knows that.

2. It is nothing like the WPA |
|
The government directly hired millions during the depression.
What we got today is more trickle down bullshit, how many jobs will be made after that money is filtered through the hands of the contractors? What will the wages be?
If the money that has been thrown at the banks had been used to hire directly millions would be working, spending, but where the priorities lie is all too obvious.

6. Ideally, that is what should be done. |
|
The government should print the money and put these people to work. There is little threat of inflation with so little money in the economy. But we can only print money for wars or natural emergencies. Anyway, that would be too much like Roosevelt and would be called socialism... :-)

7. "Modern Day" is the key word |
|
The WPA would not have been enacted in today's world. It was created via executive order and abolished as soon as there was improvement under WWII.
