SOLYNDRAGATE: Huge Email Dump Implicates Obama And Rahm In Bankruptcy Scandal
The White House released a bunch of emails related to the Solyndra bankruptcy scandal to Congressional investigators today, in what has become a regular Friday evening email dump.

The emails, obtained by several news organizations, implicate the most senior levels of the Obama administration in scandal, which has tainted the White House since the solar company went bankrupt last month, leaving taxpayers on the hook for a $534 billion federal loan.

1. I own Solyndra modules, and I toured their plant. It was awesome.
The product and the fabrication process are state of the art.

What I'm reading in these emails isn't surprising, the PR spin and timing of things taking precedent over best practices and caution and equity, it's not uncommon.

I'm not loving it but it's not surprising, either.

But to be honest, I'm a hell of a lot more interested in bringing down the right than in helping them get back into the whitehouse.

We just can't take any of that any more.

13. It's not clear whether Obama or a Republican is the better strategy
It is clear that the next Presidential term will be the end of a presidency in either case.

In four years the unemployment rate will be higher, the US economy will be roughly in the same shape, and the US will have a diminished stature in the world.

If Obama is still president in 2016, there will be a Republican landslide which will set up a generation of dominance.

If a Republican is president in 2016, there will be a Democratic landslide which will also set up a genertion of dominance.

It may be better for a Republican to play Herbert Hoover than a second term for Obama.

7. What is the scandal? They made a bad loan and every solar exec
should be an Obama supporter. No surprise there.

This will die as quickly as the Sestak job offer "scandal".

8. Are you in the habit of stirring up crap?
Or, do you choose to spend all your time relying on "business insider" for your information?

12. The decision to give them a $534 million federal loan was Obama's decision
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 09:52 PM by FarCenter
Solyndra only decided to apply for the loan, to use CIGS technology which is too expensive compared with others, to design modules with an unusual physical design, to spend a lot of money on machines that never worked right to product the modules, and to build a new factory that is too expensive to be competitive.

They never should have gotten the money.

16. Solyndra wasn't a going concern that was being "propped up"
It was a startup that had never turned a profit. It had a design and manufacturing process that was new but hadn't been properly worked out in pilot. It built brand new full-scale manufacturing facilities for a product with no market at the cost of production.

Venture capitalists wouldn't give it more money.

The Obama adminstration wrote the a loan guarantee for $534 million and made it subordinate to other debt, so that the taxpayer doesn't even get the plant and other assets as security. The remains of the company will be auctioned off and the proceeds given to the other creditors.
