EL CENTRO, CALIFORNIA- Captain Harry Wales, as he is known, arrived in El Centro. Buckingham Palace said on Friday that the British Army Captain arrived at Naval Air Facility El Centro. Prince Harry will be training to fly Apache Helicopters in the desert conditions of Southeastern California that closely resemble conditions in Afghanistan.
Harry is among 20 British Army students that will be participating in the training. The training will end at an Air Force Station in Gila Bend, Arizona. According to officials at NAF El Centro, he will not receive any special treatment and will be treated as any other soldier training in the program.
Meanwhile the BBC sparked some controversy around El Centro when the opening shot of their television report showed a bearded man sitting in an old recliner in front of a building with grafitti on the door. There was litter around the dusty, dirty landscape the reporter called El Centro "Hardly a setting for a royal visit".
El Centro City Councilman Jon Edney said, "It's unfortunate a shot like that was used." It (the video image) certainly isn't representative of the community as a whole". Mr. Edney who is an El Centro real estate broker, went on to say "I manage over 1,000 properties in Imperial County and I don't know where that place would be located."
In response, viewers are posting beautiful pictures of El Centro on The KSWT News 13 Facebook page www.facebook.com/kswt13. News 13 will be sharing these photos with viewers during weather reports.
