What is it that so scares RW media (MSM) about Occupy? The time factor |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-08-11 07:36 AM by underpants
RW radio and their run-off Fox News and the MSM have taken to personal attacks on the Occupy crowd. Why? because of time
First- the Occupy Wall Street people stuck it out for 3 weeks before anyone paid attention to them (other than us). That shows resilience and people appreciate that. They didn't show up to 1 hour town halls or spend 2 hours on National Park land protesting the Federal Government. In fact they had ZERO publicity before the event started. They stuck it out and people do respect that.
Second - the elephant in the room - they are reminding the masses of WHEN all this started. Back to Reagan? Okay yeah but mostly under W's watch. Not only did it happen THEN "it" was fueled by Bush (as the face of conservative "economics" ). This happened just as the polls started to show the "blame Bush for economic collapse" numbers started fading down toward 50%. The time line has been purposely blurred so the masses forget exactly WHEN things happened and who caused them - as opposed to trying to fix them. The Occupy crowd also reflects that the non-Right is allowed to question their own.
TIME is the key. The longer they stay the more focused the attention on the time line.

I think the fat ass pontificating class are so pampered that they can't imagine actually braving the elements for a higher purpose. It's all they can do to make it from the limo to the front door in January. You could get FROSTBITE out there!

3. FOX isn't running their "Freedom" promos any more |
|
"Do you believe in freedom of speech...?" It was their final desperate plea to the remaining three teabaggers in America listening to the radio to sign up for some FOX news "express yourself like a true amurikan" website. But suddenly, they just don't seem to care about "Freedom of Speech" at all!
You can believe they are scared to death. Mostly because they have controlled the message for over ten years. They can't control this, and they are pissing in their pants at what it may become, you can believe it.

6. Yes I am sure they are. The first (time sucking) question when a Repub says something stupid |
|
or when the TeaBaggers started has consistently been "But do they have the RIGHT to say it?". This takes at least 20% of the time out of the discussion and listeners think that this is a rights issue not a fact issue.

5. the other thing is Republicans brand themselves as pro business anti government |
|
The OWS is protesting business and not necessarily government. So this hurts the GOP branding.
Dems traditionally branded themselves as pro-labor and somewhat pro-government so this helps the Dem Branding. If dems were smart they'd be saying that stand with the OWS crowd 100% and maybe even speak at some of the events.

9. I'm not sure that its een necessarily protesting business |
|
I think that's where the message starts getting lost and people start saying that those of us supporters are communists or something. We need to be a 'pro' movement, not an 'anti'. We need to be pro people, not anti-business. Businesses aren't people, but like it or not, its what drives our economy. This whole thin needs to be carefully framed as being pro-people, pro-democracy, pro-fairness. Not so much anti-business, anti-banks, etc.
Granted yes, there's lots of anti sort of things going on, but if we can frame it in a sense of making positive changes for democracy, and positive changes for people, it will be a lot easier for those on the fence to see the difference, and make our message more resistant to the spin machine that exists on both sides of the aisle that is threatened by changing the status quo. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but does that make sense?

After awhile various policies can be addressed with politicians hopping on the band wagon. Most of them are bought and paid for but there may be some who can get an interview on the great TV news. Non-politicians may have to speak if there are none who will step up to the plate. Probably better since they will not mince words.
Most people here would start with taxing the uber rich, strengthening healthcare and social programs, tending to the homeless and vets, reducing military budget and wars, it goes on.
Politicians have to own up to being bought and working against those they were elected to speak for.
As time goes on and the movement grows, clarification and communication will come.

11. The Dems are on the road to the same oblivion faced by the |
|
Whigs in the late 1850s. One of my fervent hopes of the OWS phenomenon is that it spawns a new Labor Party that will actually advocate for the interests of the working class and not tack rightward to try to compete for the support of the ruling class.

7. It scares them that we are finally fighting back - |
|
I can remember Carter. He wasn't all that wonderful, and it's been 30 years of very conservative rule since then. My hat is off to our young folks. They tried to put in a progressive president, and since he hasn't been able to accomplish much (for obvious reasons - capital won't allow it) they have switched tactics and taken to the streets. They have my support 100%. They will learn as they go along, but conditions will dictate. The worse it gets - with more people losing their jobs and homes - the more people we will have in the streets.
You bet the elites are scared of this. There are so many more of us than them.

10. The MSM may be suddenly wondering just how powerful they really are |
|
I imagine they felt quite complacent that they've been doing a great job of manipulating the public through lies and fear mongering and ignoring any opposition to their boss' agendas. Now they're up against something that is catching the world's attention without the benefit of the US media. They must be collectively feeling that sinking feeling in their stomachs as the realization that they're becoming irrelevant is beginning to dawn on them.

Nobody screamed louder for the bankster bailouts while Congress was deliberating them than MSM. That was just as true on MSNBC as Fox. It didn't seem to matter that calls to Congressional offices from American citizens and voters across the political spectrum were numbering almost 200:1 against in many parts of the country.
And just as true of the manufactured debt ceiling crisis and the deficit crisis fetishism. While the whole country, in poll after poll, was decrying the wrong-way economy, unemployment, rising insecurities about homes and foreclosures, health care, fear for the safety nets, a disgust with the country's disproportionate amount of war spending--very precious little of that was any part of their daily narrative for much of this last year and a half, while the most bottom class has continued to sink deeper and deeper into hopelessness and oblivion. They shilled for the banks, the cat food commissioners from their inception, and the deficit spending "crisis" day after day after day.
They really don't care so much about when anything happened, just so the bad shit doesn't catch up too much more and happen to THEM and theirs.
