‘Contempt for happiness is usually contempt for other people’s happiness, and is an elegant disguise for hatred of the human race’ - Bertrand Russell
So that’s it – that’s what the Republicans are all about. It’s pure misanthropy: We knew it was contempt for poor people, for women, for minorities, for the “have-nots” versus the “haves.” But when I read this quote, it hit me: It’s simply contempt for happiness, and a not-very-elegant disguise for hatred of the human race. When Bertrand Russell said this, when he used the word “elegant,” he hadn’t met the teabaggers.

The Republican Party is the Party of Misanthropes.

Republicans/teabaggers are concentrated, fully focused, on making the top 1% of this country happy – which leaves a sheer 99% of the country that Republicans have zero interest in.

1. I've got something to say, though --

I often have "hatred of the human race," and figure if global warming is going to do us in, then may it happen sooner than later, wipe us jokers out while hopefully sparing some of the other species. In the meantime, I often give my last couple bucks to bell ringers/charity drive tables, etc. IMO, Repubs aren't sophisticated enough to have that kind of cynicism. If they are, then do I not have some sort of "moral equivalence" with them (which I simply don't accept)? Does this make sense?

3. The only ones they want to be happy our themselves

they can't stand anyone else to have a single bit of happiness. Even being happy about the simplest thing like someone ejoying a cold beer on a hot day they can't stand. They make me :puke:
