2. You can't beat Chris Hedges. They're in way over their league. |

We need more like this man. I'm surprised they were brave enough to put him on.
edit- Oh yeah, these smug bastards need to be humiliated. It's absolutely disgusting to see their hubris.

|
when the woman interviewer (who wasn't bad) thanked him for coming on the show.

11. Yes. We need more like him. Unflinching, he just rolled with their unfair insulting remarks. |
|
It's appalling to see such goons, especially in a public domain. I honestly think the First Amendment goes too far sometimes.

13. Actually, this was in Canada and I don't know about their constitution. But in the US |

O'Leary would have no "free speech" rights to keep a job as a broadcaster. The first amendment protects rights of citizens from too much *govt* interference, such as during the Occupy Wall Street protests. A private employer can restrict what employees say, and if employees don't like it, they are free to look for another job. Broadcasters exercise this discretion all the time.

21. I understand your frustration, but the best corrective for bad speech, imho, |
|
is more speech. (I stole this idea from John Stuart Mill's "On Liberty," IIRC :)

23. Yep. I understand. I need to mention that I feel his remarks are similar to racism. |
|
I want to post this somewhere. I woke up in the middle of the night, and realized by Hedges phenomenal self control, that when we are placed in a category (ad hominem sort of) it is like calling us coloureds. Sorry if that word offends. But isn't this very much at the heart of our polarization between liberal and conservative?
I just want to post this so I can get back to it. We do it too. Calling the president Chimpy, even if he does have the iq of half an Oragutan, it didn't help bring us together in order to actually discuss issues.

5. O'Leary is a right wing cheerleader, |
|
with all the inanities down pat. There are reasons that I don't watch the tv anymore. Literally. I have one taking up space; my son gave it to me.
However, I will write the CBC about him; his rudeness to a man who has more intellect than he will ever lay claim to and the kind of idiotic responses I expect from Fox news are much lower than the standards I expect from Canadian TV.

he's a disgusting pompous POS. Amanda Lang tries to school him but he's unteachable.
Chris Hedges totally pwned O'Leary. That was a thing of BEAUTY! I don't think O'Leary is used to having someone stand up to him and he looked a tad flustered, LOL. Nevermind Hedges talked circles around O'Leary on the issues.
Although, I do have to say, did anyone else notice that at least Hedges was given ample time to speak as opposed to being continually interrupted as on US news channels? That is what I love about the CBC.

in spite of that despicable Fox New type character. I hope our Canadian friends do not allow its media to go down the road to perdition the way the American media has. Still my hat off to the brilliant Chris Hedges.
