Hank Williams Jr needs to shut up while he has a shred of dignity left.
Edited on Mon Oct-10-11 11:12 AM by JohnnyRingo
I read that he'll have a song on iTunes today or tomorrow that disses Fox News and ESPN. In the song he cites "Fox & Friends" for twisting his words (LOL) and ESPN for taking his "rights" away. At the end of the song he tries to organize a boycott against Monday Night Football.

First of all, no Hank fan on the planet that likes football is going to start watching "Dancing With The Stars" because Hick Williams Jr said to. If they have to they'll pull the curtains, shut off the lights, and watch at a muted volume, but he's seriously deluded if he thinks they'll miss their Monday night game.

Second, is the inconsistency. He claimed in his "apology" that "he's outta there", implying that he left on his own terms. Now he wants to start a movement to get even, so which is it?

I don't recall the Geico Gecko complaining when he was canned after making comments his employer didn't like. He told us not to worry, he'll be fine. The Free Credit Report Dot Com band just quietly returned to bar gigs in Canada, and Gilbert Godfrey didn't try to stir his fans to action when AFLAC let him go after his racist comments. Even Pee Wee Herman held his head high and got on with his life after getting fired for an embarassing situation.

I felt varying degrees of sympathy for all these actors who paid the price for their public words, but they didn't cry like a little diva when she first discovered she wasn't the most popular girl in school. I know "woe is me" is the stuff of country music, but where's the pride?

Edited to avoid confusion with Hank & Hank III, musicians whom I have some respect for.

11. "Right off the cliff." Was that pun intended?
I'm laughing whether that was intentional or not!

9. By forty years or so.
He's been drunk, coke-addled, and stupid since he was a teenager.

Why change now?

3. Because he needs the money
He was earning a nice paycheck every time his song was played on MNF. He's just looking for another source of money. And when a handful of faux viewers pay iTunes 99 cents for his song, he'll be able to go out to dinner on his share of the proceeds.

12. He may have to use a rolled up $20 now instead of a $100. He's just released a big box set of his

pappy's outtakes, demos, and the like. He was pitching it on Fox after his stupid comments, even.

His disaster of a son is still alive and making zero sense.

15. It's not even his real name, by the way. . .
according to this blog:

http://rebelfrequencies.blogspot.com/2011/10/not-my-cou...

(snip)
... Williams was born into the very beginnings of a musical dynasty. By the time of his legendary father’s untimely passing, his mother Audrey could lay claim to a growing fortune. When Hank Jr. was four years old, she was able to pay Senior’s second wife $30,000 for the exclusive rights to the title “Hank Williams’ Widow”--a sum that nowadays would be over a quarter million dollars. With that kind of business savvy, Williams Jr. had a comfortable upbringing.

Even the handle of “Hank Williams Jr.” is something of a stretch. His actual given first name is Randall. Like everything else in Williams’ repertoire, it’s always been an act.

That hasn’t bugged the entertainment executives, though. Far from it, what we now call the “country music establishment” has spent the past several decades manipulating the music of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson to get in line with “red state” values. That Williams, a man who has made his living off a parodied version of the working class, should find a home with a network whose own take on class is at best insulting is, to say the least, fitting.

(snip)

The blog owner's name, BTW, is Alexander Billet, and he had similar comments to make on the Edge of Sports blog re this issue:
http://www.edgeofsports.com/2011-10-05-654/index.html
(scroll down near to the end to the comment: Zirin's right, Williams is a chump

In short, Williams, Jr. ain't no working-class hero, just a parody of one.
