Man attacks son with sword for not doing chores, police say

A Ventura man was arrested Sunday after police said he attacked his 18-year-old son with a sword, accusing him of being lazy and not doing chores around the house.

Antonio Gutierrez, 43, was in a heated argument with his son, John, when he picked up a 4-foot-long sword, police said. The son tried to use his hands to defend himself, police said, but his hand was lacerated by the blade and he bled profusely.

When officers arrived at the family's residence, the father had left, police said, but he returned several hours later and was arrested and booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

2. Didn't he have a gun?
Have our standards dropped so low that we're using swords?

This is the U.S. fuckin' A.

Man up and get a proper weapon. Your kids will respect you and the chores will get done.

9. Precisely
If there had been a gun available, those chores would have gotten the hell done then, boy. Or at the very least, both father and son could have been put in new situations where chores would no longer have been a concern for either of them. A gun would have solved this whole problem very efficiently, if not neatly.

4. "I toldeth him verily: Forsooth! Worketh thou not, Huzzah! Thouest plowshare shalt become a sword!"
Mr. Guitierrez was heard to utter a string of "Forsooth!"s and "Huzzah"s as he was led away.

7. Very quaint of him
However, if there had been a gun handy, the kid or his father would be dead. Maybe both, considering the number of dads who have killed their kids and then killed themselves lately.

Yes, violent people will always turn to other means to express murderous rage. However, other means are more intimate and more difficult to inflict fatality.

So I'll join in the huzzahs for the honest man smiting that foul wastrel of a son. It was counterproductive since the son's hand will keep him from chores for some time, but a smack on the bottom with the flat blade of a broadsword has cured many a ne'er do well of idleness.
