1. The ONLY reason I can think of why he would include such people

is to get their take on what those types of companies need in order to NOT do that? :shrug:

They are doing what they're supposed to be doing - whatever it takes to make a profit for the shareholders. The problem is (obviously) that too often entails cutting personnel. The entire system needs to be tweaked, but I've no idea how to go about it. I hope they figure it out so that those who have their 401Ks invested in stocks AND the employees of these companies don't get hurt.
