McCain OpEd on Obama - "I believe he is a patriot"
President Obama gave a terrific speech Wednesday night. He movingly mourned and honored the victims of Saturday's senseless atrocity outside Tucson, comforted and inspired the country, and encouraged those of us who have the privilege of serving America. He encouraged every American who participates in our political debates - whether we are on the left or right or in the media - to aspire to a more generous appreciation of one another and a more modest one of ourselves.

...

I disagree with many of the president's policies, but I believe he is a patriot sincerely intent on using his time in office to advance our country's cause. I reject accusations that his policies and beliefs make him unworthy to lead America or opposed to its founding ideals. And I reject accusations that Americans who vigorously oppose his policies are less intelligent, compassionate or just than those who support them.

6. Screw the backstabber John McCain. He's done zip to support Obama.
McCain's just making an effort to sound "statesmanlike" in light of the events in Tucson. :puke:

13. You know, I disagree
if this means McCain might be part of a coalition to pass decent immigration reform or something of that nature, I'll take it.

11. Low bar, isn't it?
Apparently it's news if a Republican considers Obama a patriot.

10. One good deed doesn't make up for the trail of destruction
you left in your wake, Gramps. Between unleashing the scourge of Sarah Palin on the lower 48, that "BUILD THE DANGED FENCE" ad, and killing the DREAM Act because you wanted to get revenge on Arizona's Hispanic population, you are beyond fucking redemption.

16. i think it was probably the shooting
actually i think his recent behavior was more due to him just being angry he lost.

but he saw with recent events that things got too far and there was the huge contrast with how Obama handled things and how his own choice for vp did.

15. Does that mean that the people who stand against him who want to water the tree
of liberty with the blood of patriots and tyrants are the tyrants?

19. Too late for you McCain. You should've toned down the rhetoric in 2008 when Sarah P Leathers
was running around saying that Senator Obama "pals around with terrorists".

He was a sitting Senator when Caribou Barbie said that about him.
Yeah, and you were soooo proud of your campaign.

You're a joke!!!

21. Wonder if we'll see McLame supporting the Tea Party ideology less now
He seems to float to wherever the political barometer falls, so it will be interesting to see if he stands true to course with this.

24. Surprisingly contrite. My feeling is that he has made the decision to retire...
For all the ill he has caused, this could be useful for the Democratic cause, if by making this decision it means that he'll go back to his "maverick" ways.

Not that I'd ever trust the guy after all the damage he's attempted to do (and really, his efforts amounted to nothing and the right wingers still hate his guts...BUT he won his re-election which I suppose was the point...except on DADT where he really showed his true colors in pathetic fashion), but if it means he'll compromise towards OUR side from time to time, I'll take it.
