My Daughters' Mother-in laws Republican take on OWS
She called my daughter to report they are defecating in the street, urinating in the streets, having sex in the streets, selling cocaine and heroin in the streets. The streets smell, garbage all over. I may have missed something but the Repugs are retaliating. She said the Tea Party never behaved like these people. OWS is like Woodstock, her last word.

1. I heard basically the same thing. Since I heard it, it must be true.

9. One would think that if this gentleman's photo is posted on the web. One of
our "intrepid reporters" could find the time to ask him a few questions.

4. Remember When Fox News Held A Nationwide Series Of Tea Party Events.
To jump start the Tea Party? Or, when CNBC's Rick Santelli coined the term? I don't see any corporate media network pulling the strings behind these protests. In short, OWS just isn't authorized by the corporate media.

THE most important thing for democracy is to make sure that people stay at home and clean their houses. /sarcasm.

6. Has she been to NYC before?
All those things have been true and verified first hand in my personal experience - and I'm only a somewhat frequent vistor not a resident.

One caveat - I never got close enough to the drug deals to be absolutely sure that my sample included coke and heroin specifically, but I'm pretty sure she has not done so at OWS either.

7. It's hard for them not to spread the lies...
When that's all they know, that's all they're fed, and they have no urge to seek out the truth.

show her these photos:

These folks have set up an intricate and CLEAN system to deal with waste, to communicate, to eat, to watch out over each other, etc. They have set up their own "city" in that park.

Also does she know that the Occupy movement is not limited to just NYC?

But I remember the Selma march and that people said the same thing about the marchers. Back then the emphasis was on the sex.

21. Whatever the establishment wants to denigrate, it is the same round
of lies smears and innuendoes:
They are dirty, they drink, they urinate/deficate in the streets/fields, they are promiscuous sexually, they are stupid and can't learn, on and on.

As a child in the '50s I heard that about blacks, then Polish, then Italians. But as a Catholic (at the time) it really hit me in the '60s (@14/15 when I heard that's what Protestants in Northern Ireland were saying about the Catholics. Then I realized it was just a smear tactic. Sad in all this time those in power can't do a little better at their smearing. (i say that as sarcasm.)

22. A _New York Post_ (RW rag) article claims that. She probably read it there.
I read in a Cris Hedges piece that the nearby Burger King won't let them use the restroom, but the McDonald's does. I wonder how long it will be before that Burger King ends up being boycotted.

OTOH, if it were my restaurant, I might worry about having thousands of people using it, too. The person who owns that particular store is almost certainly one of the 99%, too.
