1. Those two inventions have literally changed my life...
And, I suspect, many lives...

2. Every dollar I've made since approximately 1985 I've made with my keyboard.
I'd guess you'd say I'm sold on the concept.

17. Nice.
Self employed?

I didn't start working on line until about '98, but it changed everything for me.

22. Nope. I work in a big company as a communications manager.

So a lot of my work is face-to-face and networking internally and externally. But my hammer and anvil are my mouse and keyboard.

Computer technology really has enhanced and expanded our interactivity both in person and from a distance.

let me know. I've been trying to hammer out a living on this here keyboard myself.

I'll put your contact details in my vendors list.

And just to make it clear, I'm a native English speaker from the U.S., so I can do English-language projects as well. I'm in Argentina because I met a girl online from here and moved here and married her.

13. I'd be in a rubber room by now without DU.
As for the internet itself, it has enabled me to enjoy a much simpler life, even while it has opened windows on new areas of interest I'd probably never have discovered otherwise.

The other day, someone tried to interest me in their unused phone books. Needless to say, I was uninterested. I can find anything on the web.

my years increasing my mad typing skills will finally pay off at work. I can type faster than I can write. Couldn't before the interwebs and my incessant need to have a say in, well, everything.

26. They will be.
I'm a medical transcriptionist, and have watched many of our clients come on line hesitantly and reluctantly. Once people get used to it, though, they never want to go back.

29. I work on a unit that is staffed with a number of people
who need constant tutorials on right click, left click, double click, etc. It will be especially painful for them, though since I'm volunteering to be a super user, I believe I will be sharing their pain. We'll get through it, though, we have to.

30. It'll be worth it.
Even those needing constant tutorials will eventually catch on. I read once that it takes the average person 8 repetitions of something new to really "get it." Once they're over that hump, it gets easier and later becomes ingrained.

I'd bet that by midsummer, even your most reluctant people will be comfortable with the new methods.

7. In a way, they do.
I ask much of them and they always come through, and they enable me to communicate with absent human loved ones in ways that were never possible before.

For non-sentient functionaries, that's about as close to love as it gets.

38. It's an option
Leg-humping is an optional extra at this point. But then, sound was once an optional extra in computers, as was color.

Ya oughta use Firefox - I'm sure they'll have an anti-leg-humping extension soon enough.

20. I remember sitting around drinking beer with some friends 23 years ago and...
Edited on Sun Jan-16-11 01:18 AM by MilesColtrane
the subject of settling drunken bets came up.

We thought to ourselves, "Wouldn't it be great if there was a 24 hour, toll free hotline that could accurately answer any question you put to it?".

Lo and behold, the intertubes and Wiki fulfills our dream.

The LOLcats, naked women, and DU are just bonuses.

And to think it was my panic that the dough wasn't rising for my first-ever attempt at making bread that started it.

I typed my question into Google and found causes and solutions on the web almost instantly. It was in that moment of giddy relief that I started this thread and it struck a nerve with you, too.

You guys are the greatest -- and I'd never have known you without the internet and DU. That's my "attitude of gratitude" right now.

PS - The dough is rising perfectly now!
