8. That, too, LOL.
I visited the USSR in 1986, went with my grandmother as part of a peace group. The government may have been objectionable, but the country is beautiful and the people couldn't have been nicer... :hi:

34. My mother went also
It was in the mid-80s (I can't remember the exact year), and she talked about how nice the people were. She said she felt very safe as well.

35. You know, that's exactly what I was just thinking.
I've always wanted to go back, but things certainly have changed. Under the USSR, I also felt very safe, not so sure I would now. When we got back to the US, I was checking on our reservations and I got out of line to remind my grandmother to keep an eye on our luggage. I was much more anxious in NY. I got yelled at for trying to take a picture in the airport. I reminded my grandmother that we weren't in Leningrad anymore. :(

14. "In Soviet Russia..." A primer for those unfamiliar with Yakov Smirnov:

In America, your job determines your marks.
In Soviet Russia, Marx determine your job!

In Soviet Russia, you assassinate president!
In America, president assassinate you.

In America, you throw party.
In Soviet Russia, party throw you!

Etc..

40. Not really. It seems to be a popular internet meme, I am in college currently and hear variations of
"in Soviet Russia" constantly from people who could not possibly have been alive when it was initially around.
