DUers: Are those I'M A MORMON TV ads running where you are? |
|
If so can you please chime in and tell me what city you have seen them in?
I have never seen one except on the inter-tubes - I have a feeling it's because I live in a blue state (CA) that ain't votin' for Romney anyhow!
Betting these "religious" ads are targeting red states (for the primary) and swing states (for the general) exclusively, which, IMO, would mean they are not religious at all but political.
I find them completely strange anyway because they don't say ANYTHING about the religion at all it's more like "look how cute and normal I am....I'M A MORMON!" How lame is that? I remember the LDS ads of old were all like "did you know that there's another part of the Bible God wants to share with you? Send away for this free Book of Mormon!" Whatever happened to THAT?

15. Not in the solid blue states, that's my point |
|
If they were really "religious" ads why would they not be interested in CA & NY? It's a political campaign for Romney and as such should be subject to the same disclosure...

2. Initially, I thought you asked if we saw the "I'm a Moron TV ads"... |
|
Which made perfect sense, given the current crop of GOP candidates and their insane supporters.
I was imagining a series of people with rather blank stares saying things like .... "I know that Obama took office in Jan of 2009, and I'm still completely sure he caused the recession that started in 2007. I'm a moron."
Oh well ... I can hope some one with video skills gets working on this ...

missionaries around here. There is a LDS church not far from here. They're kinda annoying like Jehovah's Witnesses, but I guess people can talk to imaginary folks in the sky however they want.

4. They're running in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. |
|
They have been for quite some time. I have no idea if they are connected with the Presidential election. Mormons have been running ads off and on for decades. It's an evangelistic campaign aimed at getting people to join. This new series of ads seems to be aimed at normalizing Mormons in public opinion. Will they affect Romney's campaign. Probably, in a small way, although they shouldn't have much effect on people with an existing prejudice against Mormons.

This is on Direct TV's Choice set of channels. There are a lot of channels, I only watch a few, and I see those advertisements pretty often.

|
That's about the only time we see any local channels but I'm not sure that they can't direct advertising by regions. I've always had the impression they could do that.

|
Between almost every cartoon show as a kid there was a commercial for Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Now I never see Mormon commercials here in NYC. Can't say I miss them though.

John Hagee is right up the road. Sure they're targeting red states.
Another unrelated commercial observation - ExxonMobile ad set in a college classroom where corp recruiters are explaining the process of natural gas extraction; how safe it is; how they're creating jobs. Students are told they'll have a job when they get out of college.
Didn't take big oil long to put that one together in response the OWS.

they just upped the rate in response to OWS.
Unfortunately for them, as my youngest brother put it...if I wanted to work towards the destruction of my happiness and live in a cesspool, I'd have continued on to law school.(He's quickly becoming my favorite sibling.)

There used to be similar ads on TV when I was a young'un... they were followed by a pitch for you to "call and recieve your free Book of Mormon from the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints.
