Today I was shocked, disgusted, and speechless...
although I should be used to it by now. For background, I live in conservative country in Texas- home district of Ron Paul. I dont think it gets any more freeper than this. I am used to seeing stupid bumper stickers - Palin 2012, Obama lied Grandma died bs....but today took the cake!!!!!!

This was custom made - not one of those rectangle mass made sticker, but the white vinyl kind that is in separate pieces. It had a picture of the Obama symbol with a line through it and under that the words:

2012
Don't Re-Nig.

OOOMMMMGGGG!!!!!!!!!!! Not renege - which really would not have made sense, but RE-NIG!!!! And to make things worse they also had an Air Force sticker, and one of those stickers stating their kids name and sport - so they are passing this hate on to future generations.

25. I am stuck in Indiana also
During the 2008 campaign, I saw quite a few Obama 2008 car stickers. Now I hardly see any around here. I still have mine on proudly displayed and dare someone to try and mess with my car. Some repubs that I know keep threatening to anonymously take it off and that I will finally see the light... NOT! I hope to get out of this backward red state someday soon.

26. I'm stuck in Indiana, too, but I live in the part where I still see
lots of Obama stickers and people still wear Obama shirts. Of course, this means we live in one of the few Democratic counties so we get screwed as much as possible by Mitch and his bunch. I know some great people near Indy. In fact, one of CodePink's most vocal and amazing members lives down there, so you're definitely not the only one.

4. I left TX last June. I lived there for six years in a freeper nest, as
I think most of TX is. Never ceased to amaze me how much hatred could be spewed in a few square inches on a bumper or the back cab window of a pick-up. Many times the message was accompanied by a cross! You're right about the hatred being passed on to future generations. My ex's grandkids proudly mimicked the adult jargon that was laced with ignorance and intolerance while the parents humbly smiled (mission accomplished). To my ex's credit, he tried to inform the kids through discussion, examples, etc. I thought he did that well. Imagine our surprise when we were told by the parents to 'butt out'! We reap what we sow.

Edited on Sun Jan-16-11 10:34 AM by seabeyond
day he wore it to school. he said so many kids telling racist jokes. it wore him down. you know these kids hear these jokes from their parents. made me sad.

this is what parents teach their kids. what that parent teaches their children with that sticker.

7. Well if you take the meaning literally
It could imply that Obama is re-elected.

Of course I doubt that's what the person with the sticker wants.

9. I have a freeper down the street from me ...
I live in a fairly affluent part of NC. The freeper down the street from me is generally low key about it.

He has a new black Mustang (mid-life crisis car), and I noticed that every once in a while he'll put two anti-Obama magnets on it. The one says "NOBAMA", and the other says "OBAMA WTF". My sense is that he puts those on when he's headed to some tea party event or meeting because the magnets aren't there for very long. Sometimes I'll see him drive out with the magnets on the car, and then return later with them removed.

I'm not sure what he does for a living, but he's definitely doing well. He has to be a mid-level manager or something similar. So its kind of funny seeing a mid-40s guy with a sleek shiny black mustang with the "Obama WTF" sticker on it. My other neighbors giggle when he drives past the bus stop in the morning if he has the stickers on.

When the GOP officially took the House majority the other week, the stickers went back on his car, and they stayed there. I got the sense that with the GOP House majority, he was making a statement, and was going to leave them on proudly.

On the day after the Tucson shooting, he removed them again. I'm curious to see how long they stay off.

12. Just looks ridiculous on this guys car.
In the case I site, it seems rather childish for this grown man to use it to express his political position.

But, who knows, it might fit your personality. Not knowing you, I can't say.

My wife reminded me that the "NoBama" magnet is what he used during the elections. More recently, that one was replaced with "Impeach Obama" when the GOP took over. Which is equally silly.

11. Ugh, that is so sick, Kalli. I saw a car awhile ago with a sticker that said 'the south was right'
and hanging from the rear-view mirror was a miniature noose. It still horrifies me when I think about it.

13. The only good thing about these stories is that the racists are self-identifying ...
Sometimes crazy people, and racists, look and seem normal. And you don't find out the truth about them until its too late.

So I'd much rather have these nuts put signs in their cars so you can spot them and avoid interacting with them.

Sometimes I'm appalled that some people are so outspoken about their hatred and bigotry, but then it is better to know who they are.

14. I'm north of you in Pearland -
One freak in my sub-division had a bunch of signs in his yard during the midterm but they were calm compared to that "Stop Obama - save NASA" and crap along that line... and people wonder why we remove our Obama stickers from our cars down here. Generally where I live there are a lot of transplants (med center workers - folks from other countries as well as other states tend to like the suburbs by 288 for easy commuting, and also we have a fair share of professional sports players). It's actually an interesting area, but go east or south a bit and it's deep red.

20. I looked for that saying and found a letter written by some R senators
The title of the letter is, "Do Not re-nig in 2012"

So this is how they address the President of the United States of America

Do Not re-nig in 2012

To:
President Barack Obama
Rep. Mike Rogers
Sen. Richard Shelby
Sen. Jeff Sessions

March 11, 2010

What the administration means is, 'we don't want to hear anything negative or against what we want' on anything.

From: John
Subject: Now it's Fishing

We don't want the current health care bill. We don't want a climate bill that will increase our electricity and over all prices. We don't want the KSM trial in the U.S. We don't want to see our Seals vilified. Now it's "we can't fish in certain areas." But O wants this so he just doesn't listen and goes ahead with what HE wants. Don't you feel warm and fuzzy?

22. DOes anyone have an image of this sticker?
It would be useful as a demonstration of overt racism. I'm always having to spend time defending myself when I say the tea party is racist on mainstream sites. This would be a helpful demonstration graphic tool.

28. I don't think Ron Paul is a rightwing nut.
He stands for what he believes in, Libertarian views. Quite unlike other freepers, who only care about how much money they can profit. I can do with some discourse with a man of principles rather than douches motivated by self interest. The sad part is that by aligning himself with GOP nuts, he's often cast aside among his own party as the crazy ol dude who hates war and wants to cut defense spending.

29. Howdy neighbor,
haven't seen that sticker around here yet,

btw I'm stuck working down here in Ron Paul's home town, I get to hear all kinds of crazy around here at work. The good news is: right wing influence is being diluted by the influx of diversity. (and the repugs know this, so they're scrambling for solutions)
