So now a boycott of the Olive Garden might just fly ... |
|
but too late ... I remember the libs/dems tried to get a boycott of the Olive Garden restaurant chain going, but, of course, it never got the attention it deserved. Now, O.G. is likely pissing off the Conservatives/Repugs ... http://specials.msn.com/A-List/Lifestyle/Olive-Garden-says-no-to-US-flag.aspx?cp-documentid=30981483

1. I don't go there to begin with |
|
I'd rather go to a ma-and-pa Italian place that serves real Italian food.

3. I like Olive Garden because it lets me feel smug about complaining that it's not authentic |
|
How can you put a price tag on that kind of self-elevation?

7. For the same reason I like to go to Taco Bell |

and smugly proclaim that the "Mexi-Melt" is not an authentic, traditional Mexican dish.

9. OH, YES IT IS, DAMMIT! |
|
It has "Mexi" right there in the name, for fucks sake.
What more evidence do you need, anyway?
Of course, by that reasoning, you could make Swedish meat balls, melt cheese over them and call them "Mexi-Melt Swedish Meatballs".

We have a tremendous amount of authentic Italian restaurants, bakeries etc to choose from--not even counting Little Italy.
There's no reason--none--to ever feel Olive Garden is a viable option (at least here in Cleveland). The vast majority of the time the prices are comparable (if not less) and the quality--well there's no comparison.
Give me Corleone's, Bruno's, La Dolce Vita, Trattoria's, De Gaetano's ( a little gem in Beachwood), Nino's and Corso's any day of the week over stinkin Olive Garden.
If I absolutely MUST go chain Italian, it's Macaroni grill. Pretty decent food and acceptable wine list. For a chain it's pretty good, which actually says a lot.

and same here. Part Italian (My Great Grandmother was off the boat) which only makes me 1/8, but I'll take it!
The aforementioned restaurants were just a five second--off the top of my head reference. There's literally HUNDREDS more in the Cleveland area that are outstanding "ma and pa" as well.
As a proud Clevelander who travels quite frequently, I can tell you our restaurants, bars and bakeries are among the very, very best in the nation.
