Baby Lisa still missing, private investigator joins search
A team of more than a dozen police investigators, police dogs and officers on all-terrain vehicles are searching a wooded area near 36th Street and North Brighton Avenue this afternoon looking for evidence in the disappearance of 11-month-old Lisa Irwin.

Capt. Mark Folsom said that police didn’t receive a tip about the area but are searching it because the large tract had not been checked previously. It is about a half mile east of Lisa’s home in the 3600 block of North Lister Avenue.

At about 2 p.m., a group of canine officers came out of the woods, reviewed a map. They appeared to discuss an area they had just completed searching.

Earlier, an officer on an ATV emerged from the area covered in leaves and other debris. He declined to comment on what they were looking for and whether they found anything.

A nationally known private investigator is now working with Lisa Irwin’s family to find the missing infant, who disappeared more than a week ago.

“Wild Bill” Stanton, a former New York policeman who has served as an ABC News and NBC News security consultant, told reporters that he’ll be conducting an independent investigation, but added that he hopes to meet with police.

“I’m here to seek the truth,” Stanton told reporters late Tuesday. “And wherever the truth leads, that’s where I’m going to go.”

Kansas City police will welcome any tips or information that Stanton can provide, but he won’t have access to the case file or any sensitive information in the case, a department spokeswoman said.
