Manchin complaining about gridlock - He is the gridlock
Manchin says he voted to advance the jobs bill but wouldn't have voted for final passage. He then goes on the rip the President for not working enough with republicans.' What does he want? He wants more infrastructure spending. Good, so far, He wants to deny middle-class taxpayers the $240 billion payroll tax cut because he says it'll hit Social Security. Fine, that's not unheard of. Then he wants to scrap the extension of unemployment benefits in favor of some sort of unemployment-to-work program. WTF?

"This president has to take the side of the American people and not think about, 'Well, this looks better for a campaign ad in 2012, and I can make you look bad and make me look good,'" Manchin said. "Why don't you try making the whole country look good?"

Manchin is the gridlock. President Obama doesn't control the votes in the Senate. There is no negotiating with republicans that would satisfy their need to stifle the President and the Democratic initiatives. To blame the President is ridiculous. Manchin wants to straddle the fence between party's and wants cover for going along with the ones who voted him in office, all the while trying not to upset his republican friends back home.

"We have become paralyzed by the filibuster and an unwillingness to work together at all just because of an election cycle. ..." said Manchin, D-W.Va., during a Wednesday conference call with reporters. "It really comes down to politics, and it's being played unmercifully at the highest level.

Really, Joe?

2. Have you spent much time in WV in the last 20 years? If you had, you would
likely have more understanding of why Manchin takes the positions he does.

He does not have the luxury that Sen. Byrd had and Sen. Rockafeller still has of 'instittional' status.

He says he's tired of the politics, but from what you say he's taking a political position instead of a principled one like Byrd was known for. Not very inspiring.

Manchin:

"This president has to take the side of the American people and not think about, 'Well, this looks better for a campaign ad in 2012, and I can make you look bad and make me look good,'" he said. "Why don't you try making the whole country look good?"

. . . really, Joe?
