24. Financial Bastille Day?
Lyrics from the classic RUSH song "Bastille Day" Caress of Steel, 1975. See esp the last section: "Lessons taught but never learned/all around us anger burns" & "Hear the echoes of the centuries/Power isn't all that money buys".

(non-official) Bastille Day Video on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owJFelAZBDc

There's no bread, let 'em eat cake
There's no end to what they'll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth

But they're marching to Bastille Day.
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize.
Free the dungeons of the innocent
The king will kneel
And let his kingdom rise.

Blood-stained velvet, dirty lace,
Naked fear on every face
See them bow their heads to die
As we would bow as they rode by

And we're marching to Bastille Day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Sing, oh choirs of cacophony
The king has kneeled
To let his kingdom rise.

Lessons taught but never learned
All around us anger burns
Guide the future by the past
Long ago the mold was cast

For they marched up to Bastille Day
La guillotine claimed her bloody prize
Hear the echoes of the centuries
Power isn't all that money buys.

7. OWS is an ANTI-CRIME PROTEST.
The ordinary, day-to-day work of Wall Street moves money from savings to investments.

Nobody is bitching/whining/screaming about that.

IT'S THE CRIME.

IT'S CRIME THAT NEVER GETS PROSECUTED.

IT'S CRIME WHERE WHOLE DEPARTMENTS OF WALL STREET FIRMS GO ROGUE AND NOBODY GETS PROSECUTED.

I'm not talking the individual crooks who steal millions from their companies and likely get busted.

It's whole departments at the likes of Goldman, Sachs. They stole trillions of dollars and nobody gets prosecuted.

Simple stuff -- Common Law Fraud.

A trillions is easy to understand. A million-million dollars. Steal a million dollars a million times.

And nobody gets prosecuted.

That's what is getting protested. Too simple a message for the media ???

10. A mob of your own making. How ironic. And juts what did you ultimately expect?
There had to be a logical conclusion. I expected this in the 70's. I guess Americans are either slow or very patient.

14. The historical illiteracy continues to stun: the French Revolution led straight to Napoleon's
dictatorship, and two decades of internecine European war.

And guess who won, after all the dust had settled and all the bodies had been buried? Hint: it wasn't the revolutionaries.

The cartoon is a grotesque analogy on all sorts of levels.

19. What a Difference a Day Makes
My post yesterday had a picture of a guillotine and was locked by the mods for an implied threat of violence. Today there's another guillotine thread with a shit load of rec's. Here's the pic I posted:

I was roundly scolded by other DU'ers for implying any conceivable connection between a popular uprising in 1789 and one in 2011. Incroyable!

27. They need to make that guillotine operational.
It looks a bit unfunctional and it desparately needs to be put to use ASAP. Blankfein (Goldman Sucks) first.
