Senate Must Increase HUD's Allocation and Fully Fund Key Programs

Take Action!

Please read this and take action! How much more do they want people to suffer in this country?

.........

From the National Low Income Housing Coalition:

http://capwiz.com/nlihc/callalert/index.tt?alertid=54569501

The FY12 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (T-HUD) appropriations bill, S. 1596, may head to the Senate floor today. The Senate is expected to vote on this bill in the coming days, perhaps early the week of October 17. Calls to the Senate in support of key programs are needed now.

These bills together will likely become a small package, or “minibus,” of spending bills.

The Senate T-HUD bill, S. 1596, would cut HUD funding by 10% below the FY11 level.

The bill’s cut to the Tenant Based Rental Assistance account would cause tens of thousands of households to lose their vouchers.

Contract Renewals. The bill funds renewals at the President’s original request but HUD now estimates that amount is insufficient by hundreds of millions.

The bill’s cut to the Public Housing Capital Fund would cause public housing units to be lost.

The bill would cut the fund by 22% below the President’s request, and by 8% below FY11 funding.

Urge your Senators to oppose this bill unless funding for the Housing Choice Voucher Program and the Public Housing Capital Fund are increased.

After you call, please let us know how the call went by e-mailing us at outreach@nlihc.org.

My 80 year-old sister is a wonderful person but she still thinks like an Eisenhower Republican that there isn't much difference between a Republican and a Democrat. True there isn't that much any more for some of them, but the majority of Dem's do usually vote to keep people in HUD housing. She lives in a wonderful HUD operated elder/disabled apartment complex and if they are put these people into the street I don't know where they can go. It is so sad!

5. This would mean even more homelessness, even more drops in property
values, even more misery and hopelessness on our streets.

This is unbelievable. Many of the people in HUD housing are elderly, disabled or mentally ill. Some are simply incapable of earning much in today's labor market.

6. How low can they go? And people like Cantor call Protesters "mobs" - I hope they kick the bums out!
It is time to take back our country - at the ballot box and beyond. Sen. Sanders is my hero and the Dem's better get in line with him or they will be replaced with a 3rd Party in the future I believe.

7. Agreed.
Do you like your Democratic representative and senators?

If not, what are you doing to get progressives to run for those jobs?
