Obama Brings in $70M in Third-Quarter

The president’s re-election team is nevertheless setting up the incumbent as the underdog.

By Abby Ohlheiser | Posted Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at 11:33 AM ET

President Obama’s re-election campaign brought in $42.8 million in the third quarter, a fundraising total that swells to $70 million if you count the money that he raised for the Democratic National Committee.

CNN and the Associated Press break down the numbers: Over 600,000 people donated, which exceeds the number of his record-breaking previous quarter; 980,000 people have donated to the re-election campaign so far, more than 200,000 of which are first-time donors; and the average donation for the most recent quarter was $56.

So how's he doing against the competition?

We'll know soon enough, as all campaigns must report their numbers to the Federal Election Commission by Saturday. Obama is expected to out-raise the entire Republican field combined, if previous numbers are any indication. Romney was in the front of the Republican pack for the first three months of his campaign, raising $18 million. The Perry campaign raised $17 million in its first seven weeks.

----------------------------------

Yep, the supporters of President Obama are leaving him in droves.

1. Count me among them, and since a few folks at DU have openly confirmed..
that they won't be donating this election cycle, I've doubled up. I plan to max out. Nearly a million donors, and expect that number to continue to climb. :hi:

7. So either way the election goes
We are still screwed as the wealthy will be in position to continue pulling the strings either with a rethug or Obama in the presidency!

Jeeeeeeze! - this is too sad and disappointing times to be in.

16. Raising money only seems to have become a problem when we found a Dem who was good at it
Before then it was not so much a problem.

Right?

It was a problem before the President even considered running for anything. It's just a more pronounced problem these days.

17. How utterly depressing
that this corporate, warmongering administration is the best this corrupted field of candidates has to offer.

The lesser of two evils is still evil. The oligarchy is rooted in both parties now and is playing a devious game with our elections. It is so easy to move rightward, when there is always someone further right.

They will continue to play it until we stop them.

Support OWS.

All those posts I have been reading on this anonymous website about posters swearing they were not contributing any more to the presidents campaign doesn't seem to have had much of an effect has it?

Lot of wasted bandwidth wasn't it?

19. The comparison, of course, does not include the HUGE amount of money that
Rove is raising through his crossroads pacs. I believe his goal was 100 million or something like that.

It may be that big donors are giving to Rove, anonymously, rather than to 1 or more of several GOP candidates. Whomever gets the gop nomination will get more money.

27. It's obscene. We have homeless, starving U.S. citizens and politicians toss millions
of dollars around like it's nothing... just to get elected. It's disgusting what the election process has become. What's more important? Feeding your citizens and providing shelter or running a TeeVee ad?

32. Remember back when Bush the Idiot had a +90% approval rating?
Need to take the combined IQ of an electorate such as that into consideration when running for president. Best to plan for the worst.
