I think that we should root for Herman Cain to win the Republican nomination.
With Palin not running, he's by far the most insane, and therefore entertaining, member of the Republican field. Not to mention, his candidacy and subsequent massive loss might help finally put a bullet in the head of the idea of a national sales tax.

1. I agree! Cain is their man!
I also see Obama winning 45-5 states if they nominate Cain. :)
It would be a landslide.

don't want the only guy (Romney) who is conceivably Presidential material. It's McCrazy 2008 all over again, disgruntled GOPers casting about for anybody...Fred Thompson!!! SOMEBODY... SAVE US!!! They are in complete disarray, and I couldn't be happier.

3. I don't know, Michelle Bachmann's explanation
of how the Government FORCED those banks to make bad loans and caused the collapse of the economy is pretty out there.

PIcking the craziest of the lot is a tough gig. I do admit that Herman Cain and his secret cabal of economists who refuse to be known, might just take the cake.

9. You're right, Bachmann is crazier, but she's no longer viable.
There was a chance of her taking off around Iowa, but no longer.

5. You don't think the GOP can rig another election?
Who would have thought George Bush would win twice?

6. No, we really shouldn't
Okay, if we were all voting on paper ballots counted by impartial observers, a Cain campaign could be a LOT of fun.

But dude, you can probably hack a voting machine with a cell phone, and not even God knows what's in the source code for those things. Under the current environment, the last fuckin' guy you want on the Republican general election ballot is Chainsaw Herman.

8. Your statement has absolutely no logic.
One: ANY Republican getting into office would be disastrous.

Two: If you really think there's no hope of winning an election, and that they can just create any results they want, what's the point of even having elections? If that were the case, McCain would be president right now.

10. There ARE hopes of winning elections...
But in this day and age, you REALLY have to win an election.

What helped Bush most was that the 2000 election was essentially a tie at the polls, allowing various hijinks and shenanigans to seize the day. In 2008, Obama received around 7 million votes more than McCain did. You can't Diebold your way out of that, and with the Republican slate they ran I'm not really sure they would have wanted to. Can you imagine what would have happened to the Republican brand if McCain would have keeled over in April 2009 and Palin was elevated to the White House? Oh. My God. The theme song of the Palin administration would have been Groucho Marx's inaugural in Duck Soup: "The last man nearly ruined this place, he didn't know what to do with it / if you think this country's bad off now, just wait till I get through with it!"

And while Any Republican would be a disaster for this country, Cain would be especially bad: with no elected experience, he'd have to rely on his business acumen...which doesn't translate to national leadership very well, because he can't close the Marines for lack of sufficient profit margin.

11. What would the racists do?
I'd love to see the t-baggers try to figure that one out. Probably third party with Ron Paul.

12. I think they would stay home.
Some would vote Cain out of habit, but I think most of the real racists would stay home, refusing to vote out of disgust with the Republicans. Honestly, that could be a deciding factor in winning some House races.
