SDPD Orders Removal Of 'Occupy SD' Tents Downtown

POSTED: 4:52 pm PDT October 13, 2011
UPDATED: 5:04 pm PDT October 13, 2011

SAN DIEGO -- Tents and other structures at the "Occupy San Diego" protest at the downtown Community Concourse need to be removed by midnight, a San Diego police assistant Chief said Thursday.

Chief Boyd Long said the demonstrators will be allowed to remain on the plaza, but not their possessions.

A mini-tent city has sprung up since the beginning of protests by a loose-knit group of activists last Friday. However, the organizers of the World of Dance Tour scheduled for Golden Hall on Saturday have a permit that extends into the concourse, and about 2,000 people are expected to attend, Long said.

Besides tents, larger structures have been set up in the plaza to distribute food and provide medical care, and by organizations touting their political positions ...

4. Yep, looks very much that way.
I love what OWS says tonight:
"This is an occupation, not a permitted picnic."

6. It does indeed. The rich and powerful bought the politicians and cops long ago
they both do as they are told by the real rulers of this country - the super rich and mega corporations. US - the people - the 99% - taking back control is not an option. Before this is over I'm afraid it's going to get really ugly. :(

5. the nation's PTB are hoping they can cut off the legs of the OWS movement by keeping people from
staying in place. Whatever, but as long as marches and protests are still organized, the people will be energized to vote out the extremists tea nuts and moderate GOPers in purple districts, hopefully next year!

8. If you really do want change to come about, this is your chance
to step up make it happen.
I'm not talking about bitching online about our problems.
We need to seize the moment.
Organize locally and link up nationally.
Were doing it in our little town of 1200 persons.
Our occupy event is Oct. 15
Use tactics that bring others into agreement with you, this makes them participants and shows the support we share with each other.
An example would be a sign that reads, HONK IF YOU SUPPORT ?, or, HONK FOR NO CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY.
Lets get off our collective asses and do this now.
This is the time we have been waiting for.
We might not get another.

15. Except this isn't about tents and those people are not camping,
they are protesting. That's very specifically PROTECTED by the Constitution.

That's okay. The thugs in Egypt played these games, too. And they lost anyway. When the people have had enough, you can't hold them back.
