Wal-Mart heiress arrested on suspicion of drunken driving

Billionaire Wal-Mart heiress Alice Walton was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving October 7 as she returned from a birthday celebration with friends at a Fort Worth restaurant.

Walton, who turned 62 the same day, was released from the Parker County jail on $1,000 bail.

“She accepts full responsibility for this unfortunate incident and deeply regrets it,” Walton’s attorney, Dee J. Kelly said in a written statement.

Authorities say shortly after 10 p.m. October 7, Walton was driving westbound in a silver Lexus in a construction zone on Interstate 20 near Weatherford when a state highway trooper pulled her over for a traffic violation.

Officials declined to release the nature of the traffic violation but her attorney stated that it was for driving 71 miles per hour in an unattended construction zone where the speed limit was 55 miles per hour.

“During the traffic stop, it was indicated that she was intoxicated,” said Senior Trooper Gary Rozzell. “Sobriety tests were given at the scene. She did cooperate and after the sobriety tests were given, she was arrested for DWI…. She was very courteous at the scene.”

2. Ya know what puzzles me no end?
Why in hell would someone who is a BILLIONAIRE be driving their OWN CAR? I don't understand why these actors get in these fixes, either.

If I were stinking rich, I would hire a bunch of drivers at a fine and fair wage, put them on a watchbill so one would be available around the clock, get them appropriate training so they were safe/proactive on the road, offer them good benefits, make them sign iron-clad non-disclosure agreements, and enjoy the hell out of being able to get from Point A to Point B while multi-tasking, in comfort and safety.

4. At least she didn't kill anybody this time.
Not that she would see jail time for killing while drunk again, she didn't last time.

5. Dear Billionaire Wal-Mart heiress: they got these things now called "Taxis" for when you're tipsy.
They rent cheap, comparatively speaking. And, oh yeah, they save lives - you can always retrieve your Lexus in the morning.
