Not possible? I am thinking that desperate political times and re-elections call for desperate action, say a few things lobbed over to Iran. Solves a couple of things. Re-election and a economic kick.

4. Wouldn't save either. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Hope that's not what they think in the White House.

5. I really don't think so
Even though Iran has very limited military capacity - they do most likely have the ability with their massive array of very basic short range missiles naturally protected by difficult terrain to seriously disrupt the movement of oil through the Gulf. They likely have the ability to inflict real damage on the Gulf state oil production - perhaps even their massive refineries and desalinization plants. Oil could shoot up to $300 per barrel. After fretting the matter for a the last few years, I've come to the conclusion that the cost of war with Iran would likely be so costly to American interest - that it is not very likely to happen.

10. Maybe if the Iranians somehow manage to bomb Israel........
...and perhaps do other insane things at the same time, such as coordinating with Chechen terrorists to attack Russian civilians or oil lines, and/or assisting Pakistan in an attempt to invade India........other than that, though, I don't see a ground war, especially not under a Dem.
