Fox pundit: Palin admitted political discourse can cause violence
Fox News contributor Mara Liasson said Sunday that while defending use of gun imagery, Fox News employee Sarah Palin actually admitted that political discourse can cause violence.

Following a shooting in Tucson, Arizona that left six dead and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) in the hospital, Sarah Palin attacked critics who said that her political advertisement that put gun sights over Giffords' district had had created a dangerous environment for the congresswoman.

Palin defended herself by saying, "Especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible."

13. im sure someone from Mc Cains team told her a while back and she opted to be like the deciderer and
pretend she meant to say it, that's it's just the way she likes to say it. Idiocy.

6. No, she is not a wingnut.
The Fox talk show that she spoke on followed the policy of having Left and Right panelists on the show. Mara was one the Liberal ones.

If you want purity in communication, then how can you criticize the right? They want the same thing, but with an end goal opposite to what you want.

10. Not even close.

The show does not have left and right panelists.

The FOX News show has

Brut Hume- Right wing conservative

Maria Liasson- Conservative Republican

Billy Crystal- Right wing conservative who has worked as a consultant to Sarah Palin (among others)

Juan Williams- A slightly leaning left moderate

And this doesn't even take into account the topics or subject matter that is chose to be commented on, or the fact that certain hosts (Brit Hume) are given more time than others.

Does that line up seem fair?

8. FYI to Mara: "discourse" is what we're aiming for.
Edited on Sun Jan-16-11 01:13 PM by rucky
I know the word sounds like it has bad connotations, but it's definition suggests it's a good thing.

dis·course
/n. ˈdɪskɔrs, -koʊrs, dɪsˈkɔrs, -ˈkoʊrs; v. dɪsˈkɔrs, -ˈkoʊrs/ Show Spelled Show IPA noun, verb, -coursed, -cours·ing.
–noun
1.
communication of thought by words; talk; conversation: earnest and intelligent discourse.
2.
a formal discussion of a subject in speech or writing, as a dissertation, treatise, sermon, etc.

This is important because there have been calls for "discourse" after the shooting, so now we're getting a mixed message based on misuse of the word.

I hope this isn't a FOX news trick they're using to avoid discourse.
