how much to tip in these cases |
|
I see a lot of restaurants going to this model..
you go to the counter to order. at the counter they give you a number to bring to your table. you get your own drinks etc.. these places usually have a tip jar at the counter..
how much do you tip..

I generally drop a buck or two in the tip jar in places where someone brings the order to my table. I don't tip at takeout places, usually, unless the place is primarily a dine-in restaurant.

2. 20-25% at a sit down place, 10-15% for carryout/delivery. |
|
The tip is part of the cost of whatever I order.

8. That's a little cheap. |

You should give a couple of bucks for the person who wraps it up for you.

6. 10% for carryout meals for the peson who puts it all get together |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-14-11 10:17 AM by aikoaiko
Its a lot of work to get all the little things together and they must get it right the first time. Its at least half the job of a table service.
I generally do 10% for counter orders where they bring the food to your table and bus.
I also do 10% for buffets where they refill my drinks and bus my table constantly.
I still do 15 - 20% for regular sit down dinners usually, but go as high as 25% for truly exceptional service.
Coffee counter folks get change or $1.

9. how much for carryout pizza? |
|
There's no complicated order to put together--just the transport of a pizza a couple of yards from a warming oven to the counter. Is a tip needed?

12. I tip 20% no matter the place. (also a reminder about Sonic staff) |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-14-11 11:50 AM by ScreamingMeemie
If I cannot afford to give a little extra to those who make the lowest of the low wages, I have no business going out for sit down or carry out. Carry out employees are often taking your order, sometimes making your order, wrapping up your order, giving it to you and ringing you up. The pizza shop in the strip mall I work in only schedules two employees per evening. They do EVERYTHING. So what if one is sitting or standing?...
...on to Sonic...
...many people do not realize that Sonic staff depend upon tips. They are paid server's wages. Many people have no problem at all stiffing what basically amounts to an outdoor full service waiter/waitress (on skates even!). My daughter worked for Sonic last year. If an employee does not make up (in tips) what constitutes hourly wage when added to server's wages, Sonic does pay the difference, but they place the employee on probation after 10 days. Please remember this the next time you ask for your change. :)
