Teen: Kissing another male cost me my cheerleading post
A 17-year-old senior says he was kicked off the cheerleading squad and suspended because he kissed another male at their high school in Alice, Texas.

The boy told KRIS-TV in Corpus Christi on Thursday that he was suspended after he was seen on surveillance camera with the fellow student in the school's band hall.

The teen has done cheerleading for years and had just made the varsity squad for the first time.

Some other parents agreed the boy was being unfairly punished, KRIS reported. They told the station one cheerleader who had a child and another who is currently pregnant are still on the team and have not faced any disciplinary action.

And the piece-of-shit school admins won't discuss the matter publicly - providing rationale or justification for their actions - citing privacy rules. It sounds like they haven't even told the teen they suspended exactly why they suspended him.

I suppose this shouldn't surprise me since it happened in Texas. But it's absolutely wrong and infuriating.

5. About the privacy thing...
"And the piece-of-shit school admins won't discuss the matter publicly - providing rationale or justification for their actions - citing privacy rules. "

FWIW, this isn't a copout. Federal law bans schools from discussing ANY aspect of a students records or the schools relationship with any student. If the school were to discuss this case publicly, they could get all of their federal funds pulled AND potentially face a lawsuit from the student.

No school should EVER be having a conversation about ANY student with the media.

6. FERPA does require the school to stay silent, unless the student + parent waves it.

FERPA protects the student, not the school, per se.

Although schools violate that rule all the time, they shouldn't.
