8. If you are 40, you can join.
Most people don't know that. I had a very savvy insurance lady who called me shortly after my 40th, and told me to join and she could save me a couple hundred a year. It was 8 bucks at the time, and I got my blue card. Now I have the red one (sigh).

12. I carried auto insurance with AARP for years, thinking
that I was getting a cheaper rate from The Hartford, but I switched to 20th Century this year and the premium was $200 less per year for the same coverage that I was getting from The Hartford. It was The Hartford's fault that I switched. I received a notice that my payment was overdue and they were canceling me. My payment was not overdue. So, I started shopping around and found cheaper rates even through State Farm. But 20th Century gave me the best deal.

15. I don't get insurance through AARP
Never thought it was a better deal. Just belonging to AARP gets me a discount from any provider.

9. You may have torn up your card, but you will be on their mailing list forever and ever
I just now got my bi-monthly insurance junk mail from them, it is ...gee,,,,,15 years, since I un-joined.
They somehow have access to my Soc Sec # and have followed me for 3 addresses across the country over the last 15 years, no amount of pleading will get my name off their mailing list.
but, they do print my name and address on almost every piece of paper they spam me with, so I have plenty of free return address labels!!!

20. Yeah, I'm starting to realize that
after nearly ten years.

It's OK, though, as long as they don't somehow get my phone # and call me.

They won't be happy if they do that

5. In California, it's might all be over for the President no
Matter what ends up happening to Social Security.

In reaffirming the Mexican cartels right to prosper, while decimating the ability of local governments to receive tax dollars from the Marijuana Clubs, he and his DEA are really making a bad argument for how wisely he leads as the Chief Executive.

And many of those who receive legitimate Medical Marijuana prescriptions are older people dealing with such health issues as MS and arthritis. Before Prop 420 went through, these people were often put in jail. With their property confiscated as well.

11. I am fortunate in that I have a small pension as well as Social Security ...
and some money for emergencies invested in a 401k.

Since I have degenerative disk disease and am a candidate for a hip replacement, it's difficult for me to work at many jobs and why should I take up a job needed by a younger person with a family?

On the other hand, should I ultimately have to learn to exist on cat food because my government can not live within a budget and sees no problem with serving $16 muffins at meetings?

$16 muffins, $8 coffee served in Justice audit

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As the U.S. government grapples to find ways to trim the bloated federal deficit, a new report suggests officials might start with cutting out $16 muffins and $10 cookies.

"We found the Department (of Justice) spent $16 on each of the 250 muffins served at an August 2009 legal conference in Washington," said a DOJ Office of Inspector General report released on Tuesday.

The DOJ spent $121 million on conferences in fiscal 2008 and 2009, which exceeded its own spending limits and appeared to be extravagant and wasteful, according to the report that examined 10 conferences held during that period.

The review turned up the expensive muffins, which came from the Capital Hilton Hotel just blocks from the White House, as well as cookies and brownies that cost almost $10 each.

Before I retired, I worked for a large international corporation. We often had morning meetings and food was served. When times became tough, the budget was sliced and if we wanted coffee and donuts at our morning meetings we had to pay for them. The supervisor usually bought the donuts with his own money on his way to work and we bought coffee from a vending machine.

28. The problem is we have to bend the cost curve on Medicare...
Because of death panel lies the $500 million over 10 years hair cut to Medicare ADVANTAGE providers has been removed

Medicare Advantage costs 14% more than traditional Medicare and only enriches Humana, Anthem etc.
