Did Chris Hayes just say he owes two million dollars?
I think he did.

And if he did, doesn't that say something important?

That a newly-minted tv host, with no track record in television, can instantly get a two-million dollar line of credit?

Doesn't that pronounce something perverse about our system of living?

Just because he has a tv show, even at a time that most sensible people are asleep, that very few people are watching, he can wrangle a two million dollar credit line?

Does that not seem out of whack to anyone else?

And I like Chris.

2. Doesn't necessarily mean he has a $2mil line of credit.
He could have a home loan, car loan, etc.

Also - a line of credit does not equal debt. If he said he owed $2 million, that does NOT mean he has a line of credit that large, that means he has already spent that much.

Where does he live? What's the average cost for a home there? Does he own any businesses or is he a partner in any?

There are a lot of ways a person can incur that much debt without a two million dollar credit line.

Don't judge without details.

3. Why would Chris Hayes even mention his credit line?
My sense is doing that is insane.

6. He recently bought a place in Brooklyn for him and his family (baby on way).

Two million would cover a fairly upscale 3 bedroom apartment or a nicely upgraded row house in Brooklyn.

If I could find a job in the NY area, I would move to Brooklyn in a heartbeat. There are nice places there for under a mil.

8. He's Editor At Large Of The Nation...

In addition he's been on the MSNBC payroll for several years as a contributor. The man has quite an accomplished background and hopefully had been compensated nicely for it. A $2 mil line of credit, does not mean you earn $2 million or even have those assets but that over time you will earn that amount (and a lot more to cover the interest.

Edited on Sat Oct-15-11 07:32 AM by Enrique
being on TV, even just on the weekends, is big-time money. Very few people would do what Cenk did.

edit: Cenk has a new baby too, by the way.
