How do we keep the protests going through the winter months?
I think the powers that be are banking (pardon the unintended pun) on the protests fizzling out as the weather turns cold and snow arrives. Having tabled and held signs here in NH for a variety of causes and candidates over the years, I can tell you that it doesn't take long to lose the feeling in your feet.

What can we do to keep the protests robust during the Winter?

One thought I had was that people living close to the protest sites could open their homes... as warming stations.

Anybody have other ideas?

9. Unfortunately these are not going to be permitted...
City fire codes prevent their use, and as much as I hate to admit it, and their benefit to the protest longevity; it is for public safety reasons.

4. Winter will be tough
especially NE winters.

I wonder how feasible it would be to have an empty building donated, perhaps have someone else donate utilities of some type and have a sort of indoor base camp. Protesters can take shifts occupying the park while the others camp out in the building.

2. As most Cheeseheads know, it's easy to stay warm in the cold...
...also remember that the wealthiest don't spend their winters in Maine.

There's some lovely locales for protesting in Southern California, Florida, Texas, etc. Just look for the McMansions.

7. The really wealthy and powerful don't have to go to some crummy office in NYC
They don't put up with the hassles of living in the city, commuting to work, etc.

They may come in to their midtown pied-à-terre occasionally to attend entertainments, cultural, and political events (like the occassional $25,000 a plate fundraiser.)

5. Last winter there were nor'easters with high winds and 2 feet of snow
High winds and the need for drifting snow removal will be an issue in case the lows come up the coast with temps below 32.

Most winters, the lows bring temperatures a little above freezing, so you get about 2 inches of mixed snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

But they are projecting La Nina conditions similar to last year, which set records for snow.

6. As long as you're dressed for it and aren't afraid of it, it's not hard to stay warm in cold weather

Education and providing winter clothes would probably be most effective.

11. Perhaps we could rent a hotel
Not a just a hotel room, but an entire hotel accessible by public transportation and paid for by donations. There's got to be a hotel owner somewhere in NYC who's sympathetic and willing to rent space. With a hotel, protesters could rest and shower in shifts.

12. At the Occupy Iowa City park they're actually looking forward to it...
... to prove everyone wrong. The key is to maintain a presence. Discussions are being made to use incoming donations for Cold weather tents. That's a good thing because the winters out here are vicious.

13. Move to the southern states and occupy there. I'll welcome them
into Tampa Bay. I'm sure Miami would love some snow birds as well. This country is fortunate enough to have multiple climates. Occupy in other areas.

at a time. We will need more people though. We don't have to have a huge presence, we just need to keep it going til spring when the people will be back in huge numbers.
