Cops still arresting people in NYC. It's after Midnight there.
Edited on Sat Oct-15-11 11:34 PM by sabrina 1
Something is going on right now in NYC.

http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution

Looks like they are harassing people on the sidewalk in Washington Square. Hard to tell.

A few minutes ago there were shots of the White Shirts and guys in suits. Some of the protestors think they are the FBI.

1. Oh, you bet they are, plus a bunch of Feds in training
in jeans and t-shirts milling around and trying to figure out who the leaders are so they can be picked off.

They really think they can control something like this if they arrest a few people who stick their necks out and talk to the press.

The police scanner is claiming that 'protester threw a brick through a window' the people on the livestream are saying. I would not be surprised if they have agents provocateurs now doing stuff to give them a reason to crack down on them.

Looked like they had horses there a few minutes ago.

Yes, they have the White Shirts and Mounted Police there. I heard earlier they had the Terrorism units there also.

This is insane. They are treating the American people as if they were the enemy.

Livestream is back.

33. Being on the move is probably a mistake
Staying in one area might be better, away from numerous plate glass windows at street level. Marching through retail areas gives goons too many opportunities.

Right wing goons have always been there in any populist movement. A thousand years ago when I took to the streets, we used to link arms around them and march them over to the line of police and say we'd made a citizen's arrest and tell the cops what they'd done. Somehow, that stuff just never made it to the police blotter. Who'd a thunk it?

35. Good advice. The reason they didn't arrest them was because they
were probably cops.

There was a report of this huge show of police force at midnight last night on RT from a reporter who was there. She said the police used blue strobe lights to prevent reporters who were there, from taking pictures and pushed them back. I really hope someone got some pictures. I would not have posted this OP if there were not so many cops on horseback, on motor bikes, in suits, white shirts, and even a helicopter overhead, it definitely looked intimidating. And they were asking that people put it out there so if necessary, anyone who could, could come to the park as they did on Friday morning. In the end, they did not do anything other than scare people, but the reporter said there were only about 20 people in Washington Sq. at that point.

They will have to watch out for infiltrators, that is for sure. I don't know how they can do that. I like your strategy of corralling them though. Even if they did not get arrested, they got exposed.

4. The protesters are trying to get back to Zuccotti Park
Cops are following them on motorcycles, cars. They are afraid they cops might jump out, as they have before, and start arresting some of them.

The woman talking on the livestream is named Victoria, she has been there from the beginning. She sounds a bit nervous now.

Can't understand why an army of cops has to be there, with horses and the FBI.

5. The narrator (don't know his name) says they are nearly at that park
hoping the cops won't arrest anyone. The Livestream is working now, keeps going in and out, but it comes back.

The cops really are just harassing them at the point. Hoping to have an incident they use as an excuse.

They marched on the street for about 20 blocks, he says. So far the cops are just following them.

6. She sounds nervous, I don't blame her. The NYPD are pretty
brutal. She says they are near Broadway. They heard on the scanner the cops asking for people to come to Broadway. I don't know if she knows that. Hope they make it. She sounds very nervous and says the 'police are coming behind us'.

Cops are two blocks away. She wants them to tell everyone in the Park.

11. That's unbelievable. These are the people they are supposed to
protect. The NYPD is seriously out of line. They are acting like a military force who are dealing with an enemy.

Well, we've learned one more thing that will have to be fixed, not that we didn't know it, but the whole world has seen them in action now.

Thanks for the photo. Lucky you, I really am missing NY right now, but hope to get there in a couple of months.

than I usually do since I'm not as fully in as the people who are there 24/7. I mean that is real courage and commitment. I'm out here temporarily for work and am staying in a sublet so I'm going home at night. And I haven't been out there every minute I'm off work. But I definitely support it and have tried to get out there and support it often. It certainly has grown from the first weekend!!!

I go back to L.A. mid-November, so it will be interesting to see what's going on there when I get back.

22. Yes, it sure has grown, all over the country and the world
too. I would never have believed it would get this big. Great that you can be there though. I think this is history taking place that may change things around the world. In Madrid, eg, there were between 300,000 and 500,000 thousand people there today. It was beautiful to see people in over 82 countries all united in their message and all supporting each other. I will probably go to the Ventura protest next week.

LA is pretty big also, and SF was huge today I read.

I guess after you left, I think they had the General Assembly in Washington Sq. and that is where the police activity with the horses and FBI characters showed up after midnight. But it seems to have calmed down for the night now. Chicago however is being attacked by the cops right now and Phoenix, I think.

30. History is definitely being made right now, nothing like this
has ever happened before on such a huge scale, all over the world. But then, nothing like the corruption and crime that has reached into every corner of the world, (Wikileaks cables were very revealing about that) and corrupted, bribed, invaded, tortured and killed all for greed and power. I know there have been periods when power hungry Empires tried to take over the world, but in this era, they actually succeeded, starting in the Third World, and working their way through the rest of the world. So, it's historical in its sheer scale and the reaction is incredible.

Glad you and your wife were able to go and be a part of it. I will be going next week probably to Ventura or Santa Barbara.

13. Paid by Halliburton?
Is that even legal? Damn! This country really needs fixing. All of our institutions have become corrupted, by money.

And I agree, it does take courage to do what they are doing. Victoria, the woman who was walking back from the Square and narrating, sounded really scared. She doesn't usually sound like that, but I know I would be if I was being followed by cop cars and horses and motor bikes.

They seem to feel that there are not going to be any arrests. All those cops and equipment and FBI people out on the street harassing people after midnight in NYC. What a waste of money. And Bloomberg will use that to try to turn the people off the whole thing.

I'm sorry you had that experience too. In a free society no one should be put through this just to say what's on their minds about the government.

16. The protest was the Halliburton Share Holders meeting in Houston.
I knew something was wrong when I noticed that the cops badge numbers were covered in black tape.

We had a fair number of protesters but the cops outnumbered us.

Everything was peaceful until the cops are horses went unto the sidewalks.

They started to drag young men off into the street, where they were arrested.

Several times other young men would go to the rescue and drag their friends away.

That was so awesome to see.

I was almost killed by a cop on horseback, he tried to slam into me with his horse.

A fellow protester saved me by jerking me backwards just in time.

I had a video camera, I had plenty of evidence against the cops.

We won, the cops didn't chase us off.

All respect to the protesters in New York, and all over the world.

23. So they were working not officially as cops, but security for Halliburton?
If so, that should not be allowed. Or if they are going to work for Big Corps, then the people should not have to pay their salaries.

It sounds very scary, these people do scare me, watching how they beat people with no concern that they are hurting other human beings, makes them criminals in my opinion.

Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 05:28 PM by texanwitch
They were thugs.

One cop on horseback stopped his horse on a woman's foot.

The woman was screaming in pain, the cop just set there.

The protestors had to push the horse backwards a little to free the woman's foot.

The woman's foot was a broken mess.

The woman was helped to the side of the wall and a nurse who was there came to help her.

This same damn cop then rode his horse down the sidewalk hurting the nurse.

It was war, no joking about it.

So if anyone goes to a protest wear really protective shoes.

I can get really mad just thinking about it.

Fuck cops.

I also think the Chicago police are trying to kick them out of their park tonight also. I was sad to hear that because the CPD had been really friendly to the protesters up to now.

20. You'd think they'd learn. It looked very tense for a while, around
midnight, and the police radio was claiming a protester had thrown a brick through a window, but none of the protesters saw that happen.

There was even a helicopter flying over head, according to the protesters. The guys in suits were conferring with the white shirts. But so far, there have been no more arrests.

It's as if they are there simply to cause trouble. And at a huge cost to the city.

Maybe someone there tonight has a brain and realized what you just said. If they had attacked them again, even more people would have shown up.

Yesterday morning when they thought they were going to throw the out of the Park, thousands showed up early in the morning to stand with the protesters.

But if they did that, they will regret it.

I did see a report today about the NYPD's huge show of force, which I referred to in the OP at midnight. The report said that after the General Assembly, which was held in Washington Square, people had been leaving and going back to Zuccotti Park or home, and there were only about 20 left in the Square when this army of police showed up.

I checked in to the Livestream which is where I saw it. There were riot police, guys in suits, white shirts, cop cars, a helicopter overhead, motor bikes and in the Park, according to this reporter who tried to photograph it all, there were only about 20 people left. The reporter said a few reporters tried to film what was going on, but the police kept them back and used some kind of 'blue, lazer strobe light aimed at their cameras so they could not.

It was very intimidating and the woman (occupier) who was walking back to the park, said the cops began following them. She was frightened, you could hear it in her voice.

So Bloomberg complains about the cost of this?? But he sends out a whole army in the middle of the night, with what people think were FBI agents, to intimidate a couple of dozen people who were not breaking any laws.

And then there were the sweeps in Phoenix and Chicago and Sacramento also.

I have a demand, since they are always asking 'but what do they waaaaaannnnntt?' How about the civilian Police Depts that the people pay for, start working for the people and stop this attack on their rights?
