Several hundred protesters decried a long and winding list of societal problems Saturday during the Occupy Omaha rally through downtown.
The list included the state of the American economy, the corruption of politics, corporate greed, war and unemployment, the power of the rich and the proposed oil pipeline through Nebraska.
Some observers of the national Occupy group are struck by the similarities it has with the Tea Party movement, another group launched by dissatisfaction.
Even a few at the Saturday event, where 20 Tea Party backers viewed the mass of Occupiers with suspicion, admitted to certain commonalities.
Both groups are dismayed by the nation's floundering economy and by a federal government that has bailed out big banks and automakers. Both despise the power lobbyists wield over those alleged to represent the people.
Members of both groups also suggested that the other movement really doesn't understand what's going on.
