Long ties to Koch brothers key to Cain's campaign
Source: AP

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain has cast himself as the outsider, the pizza magnate with real-world experience who will bring fresh ideas to the nation's capital. But Cain's economic ideas, support and organization have close ties to two billionaire brothers who bankroll right-leaning causes through their group Americans for Prosperity.

Cain's campaign manager and a number of aides have worked for Americans for Prosperity, or AFP, the advocacy group founded with support from billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, which lobbies for lower taxes and less government regulation and spending. Cain credits a businessman who served on an AFP advisory board with helping devise his "9-9-9" plan to rewrite the nation's tax code. And his years of speaking at AFP events have given the businessman and radio host a network of loyal grassroots fans.

The once little-known businessman's political activities are getting fresh scrutiny these days since he soared to the top of some national polls.

His links to the Koch brothers could undercut his outsider, non-political image among tea party fans who detest politics as usual and candidates connected with the party machine.

1. The Koch Brothers have just been discovered to have their
involvement in the British government..
check out this story.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011/oct/15/liam-fox-resignation-exposes-tories

Fox's organisation, which was wound up last year following a critical Charity Commission report into its activities, formed a partnership with an organisation called the American Legislative Exchange Council. The powerful lobbying organisation, which receives funding from pharmaceutical, weapons and oil interests among others, is heavily funded by the Koch Charitable Foundation whose founder, Charles G Koch, is one of the most generous donors to the Tea Party movement in the US. In recent years, the Tea Party has become a potent populist force in American politics, associated with controversial stances on global warming.

Via a series of foundations, Koch and his brother, David, have also given millions of dollars to global warming sceptics, according to Greenpeace

2. Why do I not find this very surprising. Rich right wingers
are quite good at harnessing the power of ignorance. That's what they've done with the Tea Party. It's why so many poorly informed Americans continue to vote against their own economic best interest.

4. WTF?!?! The AP has no idea who the Tea Party is!
"His links to the Koch brothers could undercut his outsider, non-political image among tea party fans who detest politics as usual and candidates connected with the party machine."

The Tea Party was FUNDED by the Koch Bros. so how in the hell the AP came up with the idea Cain's connection to the Kock Bros. could hurt him politically is ABSURD! Plus, the Tea Party is not against candidates connected to the party machine at all or politics as usual as long as it is the Republican Party doing the "as usual".

I know there is no use complaining about the AWOL Media but they suck!!

5. Why do people contine to refer to the teabaggers
as an independent movement. Even Bill Clinton,on Letterman, gave them credit as if they are a separate party. They need to be considered as the crazy, racist right- wing of the Repub party that has always been there. The right-wing media whores sold them as a grassroot movement to create the impression that ordinary "Americuns" were angry with Obama.

8. Exactly! We should have been out in force...
back then instead of waiting until now to hit the streets...Back when Obama was out trying to repair the damage Wall Street had done & speaking out against Wall Street while all the pundits on the financial networks & almost everywhere else were attacking him & we sat on the couch! YES we sat on the couch while the Tea Party took over the country!

Obama said Yes "WE" Can...NOT...Yes "I" Can...OWS is 2yrs late to the game!

7. Political outsider my ass! Herman Cain is an Uncle Tom for the Koch Bros.
I knew that guy couldn't be a genuine story of someone overcoming odds and becoming a success without selling his soul to the devil (in this case the Koch Bros.).

11. I figured as much - Cain came out of nowhere. The Kochs must be stopped.
I thought Murdoch was evil, but the Koch brothers are trying not just to own this nation, but Europe, too. They must be stopped, and exposed. Clearly the mainstream media won't do it. We are in deep trouble with these guys.

12. We live in interesting times
The Koch Bro connection won't mean a thing to the Great Middle who don't have politics as a consuming interest. PizzaMan has to be discredited in a way they understand (999, his health, lack of experience, lack of popular money, etc.).

If the media gloms onto him as a human interest story (lotsa free exposure), ...

IF he gets the nomination, it's going to be a wild ride.
