Police: Cashier beat customers
Police say a cashier is to blame for the brutal beating of two women that occurred at a McDonald's in New York.

I for one would like to know more of the story. For starters why were the customers behind the counter?

1. They hit the cashier
then jumped behind the counter. I bet they won't do that again.

2. Then why is the cashier to blame?
I just can't make any sense of this.

12. The police don't like competition
They prefer to have the monopoly on the use of force, they are not pleased when a mere Citizen gets uppity enough to defend themselves against violent aggression.

5. Thank you for the link.

I am still dumbfounded why the cashier is being charged. He was assaulted first & then retreated they came over the counter after him. I would have done the same thing in that circumstance. Hit them till they don't get back up (that way I know I'm safe till police arrive).

7. Use of an iron bar was excessive force according to some
The "customers" are far from blameless in this one.

17. Victim was faced with a disparity of force...
Facing multiple aggressors, use of a 'dangerous instrument' to defend himself was initially justified.

8. if he could afford a lawyer things would be different
Just imagine if it was a cop behind that counter and two people assaulted him/her and then persued by jumping the counter into a restricted area. Both women would be shot dead and the cops would say it was a justafiable use of force.

I think all three should be charged with something though.

16. Rules for cops are different. We all know that. He isn't a cop. He's a convicted
killer. He was swinging that flexible metal rod long after the women were down, and his coworkers were terrified of him. Just wat the guy trying to stop him.

McDonald's has always been in the forefront of hiring excons to help them get a clean start. This guy may have just ruined it for a lot of those who would never act so violently.

No brief for the women going after the guy. But I want to know, wast there anything wrong with the fify dollar bill; and did he keep the bill or give it back to them.

13. I think it was the continuing hits.
Don't get me wrong, I fully support stand your ground and castle doctrine, but under both you have a responsibility to only use an appropriate amount of force to defend yourself. Once the girls were down he continued to hit them several times over a 15 second period. That's hard to justify.

9. My rule of thumb has always been this,
If a person attacks me, I will try to walk away. If they continue to come after me, I will do my best to put them down with my fists and training, if they don't have a weapon themselves. If two or more people are coming after me, trying to beat my ass, I will grab whatever will serve as a weapon, and beat them down. Once they are down, I will call the cops.

Two people were attacking one person, not a fair fight and I have no problem with this cashier's use of a weapon against them. You do whatever it takes to defend yourself in a fight.

One suffered a fractured skull, one a broken arm. Perhaps that will teach them not to escalate things to violence and attack others.

11. Fortunately I'm a big guy,
And most of the time looking mean and crazy, in combination with being 6'5" has usually discouraged most people from pursuing a violent confrontation with me.

14. If you don't want to get fucked up then you shouldn't attack people.

They are lucky they woke up breathing again, and should count themselves as such.

Don't start nothing it won't be nothing, and if you start something you should be prepared to forfeit health and even life with no further consequence to the attacked.
There should be no expectation of proportional response or mercy should the attackers have their bullshit completely turned around and they end up in physical or even mortal danger.

Don't start nothing, won't be nothing. You break that rule and you should be fortunate to be alive.

15. The current 'justice system' seems to protect aggressors
The people have been conditioned not to defend themselves, you are expected to take whatever the criminal is dishing out and hope the police sort it out later.
