10. That's one of the fundamental differences between OWS and teabagger rallies. |
|
OWS participants think about the next generations and how they can survive. Teabagger rallies are dominated by a bunch of older, self-centered people obsessed with how they're getting screwed, usually because someone in the media keeps telling them - they can't think for themselves. They're the ones railing against "socialism" as they're collecting Social Security, unemployment, farm subsidies or other social program benefits.

23. I was about to say. All of the women I saw at TB rallies around here were post-menopausal. |
|
And I am neither joking nor exaggerating. I'm almost 43 and not a one of the ladies at the teabagger counter-protests to our Awake the State rallies could have been less than 20 years my senior.

13. what is wrong with being a hippie, a punk, a freak or an anarchist? |
|
i fit all 4 of those descriptions and i too protest for a better world for my kid? seriously this woman is on the same side as me but why does she need to denigrate punks, hippies, freaks and anarchists???? haven't those people been protesting this global elite for quite some time??? personally i think the anarchists are correct that the current system needs to be brought down and another made, the freaks and hippies were right about so many issues since the 60's too and the punks are justified in their nihilism

17. "Being right too soon is socially unacceptable." |

One of the things Heinlein was spot on about.
Notice how our public discourse in the M$M is dominated by people who have gotten it wrong, time after time after time and those who have gotten it right far more often are effectively shut out..
The "Serious People" in the M$M are nearly universally cretins or at least play cretins on TV.

though I can see how one could react that way. I identify with quite a few of the labels on her list but didn't take offense.
I just perceived her as not necessarily identifying with any of the things the right is trying to smear OWS with (hence the wording), and that was her point:
It's people who don't identify as anything other than being a parent or a citizen supporting this movement.
:hi:
Edit to add that you have a good question about London, UK or Ontario. I'm trying to find out now. It was posted on the Occupy London FB page, but many images were posted. I see the maple leaf in the background now that you mention it. :)

pre-determined "groups" the media have tried to pigeon-hole everything into, and she is a representation of that...
although I would like to know what a 'vague' is...

I think that's speaking to how the media and right-wingers are saying they don't understand OWS, that it's mission isn't clear.

27. She isn't saying any of that. She isn't putting them down. |
|
She's identifying heresf with them and more importantly, she isn't allowing the MSM to marginalize herself or you by pre-empitively taking away their attempts to marginalize all of them. And she does it by co-opting their mom and apple pie/family is our side and yours is hippy freak anarchist lazy no job anti-patriots that the RW constantly tells themselves and others.
I think that sign is very smart.

I think she was just making the point that it is not just what the right wingers want folks to believe about who is showing up. We all know that there are people of all ages at the Occupay events throughout the world.
I don't think she did it to make folks like you upset.

I don't think that denying one is part and parcel of a demographic is the same as insulting or minimizing that same demographic, so I'm not sure what your defensive presumption of "what's wrong with..." is born of.

holding that baby and that sign for very long. I would need a bjorn for the baby, and I'd tie the sign so it hangs on the other side. But I will say that the impact of holding both is stronger.
