Comparing Olbermann to Glen Beck (really)
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this.

It wasn't that long ago that opinions were something carefully considered and weighed, so that they'd stand the test of time and reflect well on the author. Thinkers were like gourmet chefs laboring over an elaborate meal they wanted to be perfect. But today, opinions are Big Macs — thrown together hastily, served by the billions and not very good for you.

You probably don't want to have as many opinions as you have. But everyone around you has them. There's cable news, of course. Keith Olbermann and Glenn Beck each have plenty of opinions.

When you sell opinions for money, the way Keith and Glenn do, it doesn't take you long to catch on that the more opinions you have, the more money you make. So, like radish farmers who grow more radishes in order to get rich, Keith and Glenn create dozens of new opinions per night.

1. Note the writer's "journalism credentials"
He is an editor at Playboy, which to me kind of hits at his credibility.

There is a screaming need in this country to point fingers and say, "HE DID IT, TOO!!!!" We look like just so many small children on the playground.

I can factcheck Keith Olbermann, and he comes out okay. Glenn Beck ... well, let's just put it this way, he makes my head explode with his complete lack of any connection to anything remotely in reality.

I have watched both and watch Olbermann fairly regularly. Olbermann gets wound up, but he has never, never, never suggested violence against anyone. He has asked people to clean up their acts. Beck frequently hints at life as we know it coming to an end and what we "as Americans" will "need to do to stop the threat." Watching Beck gives the cold chills.

2. Deciding to go to war used to be a (ahem) sober undertaking, too
But that all got shit-canned when the bulldogs of the Fourth Estate decided there was more money to be had in cheerleading for war rather than reporting on the alleged facts for launching an invasion in violation of the Constitution and our treaty obligations.

4. Keith points out lies & propaganda spewed by Fixed News & Tokyo Rose hate jocks.

Those are facts, not opinions. But, yes, he's also known for his special comments, & I'm sure he'd welcome any scrutiny of the truth in each of those comments. That's why those of us here who pay attention to current events each day adore him: he's one of our few watchdogs against propaganda terrorists.
