What should the Democratic Party do with these occupations? |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-17-11 07:57 PM by David Sky
Is there a way to reclaim the Congress and the Presidency in 2012 without looking like the Democratic Party co-opted this progressive movement?
Are elected officials who are Democrats being foolish to sit on the fence on this public movement?
More people around the world than ever were involved than were EVER involved in the Tea Party are out there this past weekend and the Democratic party is silent, or only a few are speaking out, doing anything, and not a single elected Democrat is doing anything in DC.
Why are Democrats in office such cowards when it comes to knowing what is a wise leadership position?
Any thoughts, any news, anything you have to offer as far as opinion welcome... even tell me I'm full of it and don't know how Democrats in office are working to bring economic equity to this nation and the world.

3. Unless, I'm mistaken, you either gain political power through elections or ... |

through revolutions, where lots of people usually die.
Which do you prefer? Or is this just a little street theater, and you're OKAY with Republicans re-taking the Presidency, House, and Senate next year.
Try to address reality next response, please. THIS is a forum for DEMOCRATS, do you have any thoughts to offer, or just what you've heard in your news cast?

Like the British did in 1783? Fine for you! |

I guess being a Democrat for YOU means no ideas and roll with whatever happens.

5. What to do is stop thinking of it as a voter opportunity. |
|
Think of it as a moment for reflection on the purpose and the duty of public office. Stop trying to game the system. Do the right thing. Every time. If it costs you the office, at least you have your honor.
That is what the Democratic Party should do with these occupations.

6. Yes, and EVERYONE in America will just roll over and let these folks... |
|
suspend the election next year, and take over Washington.
You are SO RIGHT! You figured it out.
Of course, a bloodless, suspension of the democratic process all due to 10,000 of 310,000,000 Americans marching on Wall Street! You are so smart!

12. No, and no one in America will wind up and fall down |

where ever they see signs. Blood in the streets, cats living with dogs, mass hysteria. Carnage on the turnpike. Lots of shouting on blogs. Hysterical rants and pointless fooey. Posts that don't go anywhere but spleenville.
I am so very right. I have indeed figured it out.
Of course, a bloody infusion of politics as usual because some of those with money are afraid they might have to pay their way to belong to the country. You are so very right. I am smart.

9. May I ask where you get your numbers |

on involvement in the tea party, and in OWS? I wasn't aware that there were any reliable enumerations of the participants in either movement.

10. Who is going to co-opt whom? |
|
I think the Democratic primaries could get pretty interesting next year if OWS supporters decide to challenge corporatists, blue dogs, and Repub-lite appeasers. Recall that the Tea Party did a pretty good job whacking some mainstream Republicans, maybe it's time for some water to be diverted from the Democratic main stream.
