Herman Cain acknowledges his electric border fence idea isn't a joke after all

PHOENIX - After first apologizing for suggesting an electric fence along the border, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told reporters here Monday that he still thinks it's a good idea for controlling illegal immigration.

"I'm not walking away from that," he said.

Cain has spent the last several days explaining a controversial comment about building an electrified fence along the U.S. - Mexico border that he said could kill people trying to enter the country illegally. On Sunday, he said his comments were "a joke." But talking to reporters here after a meeting here with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has made a national reputation for cracking down on illegal immigrants, Cain reversed course.

Initially Cain apologied when told his remarks had upset some in the state. "Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa," he said, using the Latin formula for expressing contrition. But when a reporter challenged his description of his comments, saying he didn't seem to be telling a joke, the retired pizza executive acknowledged: "You're right." He said he still believes in the need for a border fence "and it might be electrified."

3. It perfectly moral unless they are throwing fetuses at the fence. Then it's bad.

2. Wouldn't good old fashioned machine gun towers be more cost effective?
You know, the kind in the vintage WWII POW movies?

Considering the cost of electrifying a 2,200 mile long fence that will require constant maintenance and the cleaning up of dead people and small animals that end up lying along it's length, Cain can advocate a heavily armed tower every quarter mile or so. He can claim to end Texas unemployment woes (I bet he can find unpaid volunteers) and it will only require expenditure when a guard has to empty a belt on a Mexican family trying to scale the fence into the most freedom loving country in the world.

That's the grand vision of America I've always shared with Herman Cain, ever since I was young and saw images of the Berlin Wall. <sarc>

What a fucking asshole.

4. But then the power corporations wouldn't make the billions supplying 24hour power.

5. That's true
As a bonus, electrical cables would eventually lead from the Cain Fence to power entire Mexican border towns.
We could erect huge signs: "When you leave a romm, turn off the light!".

6. Poor Herman, pining away for the days of the Berlin Wall
It stood as a symbol of freedom and liberty for nearly 30 years before those goddam liberals took sledgehammers to it.

7. The idea itself is stupid, and to be expected from that ilk. More disturbing is his
weird passive-aggressive behavior: "Electric fence! Nah, just kidding. No really, though, electric fence." WTF?
