Teen girl forced to wear armor, fight stepfather with wooden sword
YELM, Wash. -- A Thurston County couple is accused of beating their daughter and forcing her to fight them in a medieval-style duel.

Investigators arrested the 16-year-old girl's stepfather, Fremon Seay, and her mother, Julie Seay, this weekend.

According to police, the teen was forced her to dress in armor and fight Fremon Seay with a wooden sword for two hours. Police also said Seay punched and beat his stepdaughter with a tree branch prior to the duel. Investigators said she collapsed from exhaustion.

The couple told officers they punished the teen for going to a party without their permission.

10. i had a boyfriend that was crazy like this
he was a renfair freak, and one day we had an argument, and he said "are you calling me out?"

we proceeded into the backyard to duel with bowstaves...he pissed me off so i actually used some really good moves, had him up against the fence almost...until he disarmed me, breaking my pinkie ... ya, that relationship didn't last....

12. Here's the kicker:
On the mother: "Police said Julie Seay witnessed the abuse. She is employed at a daycare in Yelm."

Don't want to imagine what the "Little Dungeon Daycare" center is like.

13. Time for creative sentencing on this one.
I suggest that they dress a bear in armor and force this asshole to duel him with a wooden sword for two hours. And not one of those nice trained russian unicycle-riding bears. No, I'm talking about a great big, wild-eyed, roaring with spittle flying fucking crazy kodiak.

19. Bear don't need armor
I'd like to see such a duel, however.

Or put the dude on a Rack and make him confess his sins.

17. Hey don't be knocking Anime Conventions...
They are great fun. I don't care if you got dragged to one and hated it, most people who go have a great time. Not only that, but many of them are starting to feature top Japanese rock and Visuel Kei bands. Its not all, HELLO KITTY anymore, as there are some excellent anime out like Full Metal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone complex, and many others!

Some of the best Anime Conventions are exposing people to Asian music, which people probably wouldn't hear unless they hit up the once a year JapanNite Tours. Bands from conventions have included Antic Cafe, L.M.C and The GazettE.

18. Yeah, we can't have medieval recreation. It wrecks the world.

Really, governement crackdown on medieval re-enactment? Fine use of tax dollars there! Crackdown on what BTW? It is a legally valid not-for-profit educational organization.

Edit: Not that I am supporting the stupid actions of these parents.

23. Actually, once upon a time
it was common for paid members of the SCA to have an FBI file opened on them. The feds based this on the idea that the skills and "government" system used in the SCA could also be used to set up a shadow government or terrorist group. This practice ended about a decade before I joined the group. The FBI realized that the SCA was mostly mild-mannered history buffs with active imaginations.

Now, as for these folks...they have violated more SCA rules than I can count with this one. There is a combat class for children ("boffers"), and teens do not compete with adults with wooden swords. They compete against other teens with padded weapons. Even when a child ages out of the boffers class at 17, marshalls (the folks who run the fighting) do everything possible to make sure they are matched against fighters of equal experience and skill. They would rather ask a fighter to sit down for a day than put them in over their heads. Not only that, but SCA sparring is NEVER to be used to settle "mundane" world problems or arguements.

I would be shocked and disappointed if the next issue of the Known World News (the official SCA newsletter) did not list these parents as being banned for life from their local branch, regional kingdom and the SCA in total.

And before anyone critize the "brutality" of SCA fighting...The worst injuries I have ever seen and helped care for from a properly run boffer tourney have been bruises, twisted ankles and dehydration. Compare that to the broken bones, concussions and deaths that can happen any given Friday or Saturday on a high school or college football field.
