I am getting requests for money in my email inbox DAILY from the Obama campaign, and frankly...
Edited on Tue Oct-18-11 11:07 AM by garybeck
I'm getting tired of it.

Most of them don't even mention issues at all. they just talk about how much money they've raised so far (or haven't) or how much the opposition has raised.... "We need more money!" is all it's really saying.

To me this is the problem, not the solution. Too much focus on money and not enough on issues.

I never thought I would get spam from the President of the United States, but I guess it's happening. Kinda sad.

on edit... here's the one I got today... again no issues, just money. I almost feel insulted.

Gary--

Our campaign is about to hit 1 million grassroots donors.

I wanted to write to you because this is something that only happens once.

No matter what our opponents do, and however many people end up becoming a part of this campaign -- this first million will always be the group that put this movement in the best position possible for the fights ahead.

Today, I'm asking you to make a donation and be one of them.

When you give, you're not just becoming one of the first million to help fund this campaign -- you're representing millions more across the country who are counting on us.

None of us can do this alone. We've always relied on each other, not Washington lobbyists or corporate interests, to build our campaign. So today, another supporter who's already among the first million has promised to match whatever you can give. I hope you'll take them up on it:

https://donate.barackobama.com/Million-Match

Thanks,

Barack

1. campaigns are just about the only part of politics in the U.S. that still works...
...and it's taking over the whole process. Governing? Leading? Not so much, but DAMN they're hot-shot campaigners nowadays!

2. It's not spam when you opt in
You're on that mailing list because you either joined barackobama.com or donated to the president's 2008 election campaign. If you don't want to keep receiving the emails simply click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the message.

8. Not exactly what i was expecting when I signed up.
I realized I opted in. The point I'm making is that the quantity of the emails (every single day) is way overboard and the content has degraded to nothing but asking for money and no reference to issues whatsoever.

I'm just expressing my disappointment at their lack of focusing on issues. I would think that if they're going to ask me for money, they would provide some reason why I would want to contribute. Is it just because I think he's a nice guy? Presumably there's some kind of (urgent) reason why he needs our money, some reason why he wants to the the president for another 4 years.

11. Then unsubscribe
Why is that so hard? It's your inbox. If, someday, you come upon a moment when you decide to donate money to the Obama/Biden 2012 campaign, you'll know how to find them and they'll be happy to take your money.

4. I prefer contributing to more issue-specific groups & movements.

At least you know where they stand. If you're pouring a modest person-sized donation in alongside a tidal wave of corporate money, it's hard to feel you're making a difference, or that your efforts will be noticed.

10. I realize that. However, just begging for money without any reason
is kinda hollow.

whoever their marketing guy is, he's missing the boat. when you ask for money, you usually provide some (urgent) reason why it's needed.

like for example, "if I'm not re-elected next year, the country is going down the shit hole." you could even give an example or two of what the republicans will do if they win the presidency.

just saying "we need money, please send some" is kinda lame in my opinion.

9. There's no way around it these days - the cost of campaigning
is stratospheric, which is ANOTHER reason why we HAVE to implement campaign financing controls.

...that prompted a "Would you mind telling us why you are leaving?" box to appear, where I presented my reasons for not wishing to send money to a candidate that says one thing on the campaign trail, and something else entirely once in office. I wished him all the luck there was to be had because his opponents are completely out of their G-D minds, but I am backing progressive candidates locally with solid progressive values and track records..
