It's here because of the Somalis. Not only have they infected my apartment complex with dirty, sick kids and cockroaches, they are now in the drug scene? I'm sorry, I do not like these people and they have no business being here. All of them have no less than 3 kids, and a shiny new car. Not many others can afford to live the way they do! When is our goverment gonna wake up and quit letting them infest our country!!

The only race I do not care for is the Somalis. They are dirty, inconsiderate people who EXPECT their way around here. If you knew a bit more about them and had to live among them everyday, you would change your tune. They are slowing taking over. Mark my words. Come back ten years from now and remind yourself we had this tif together, by then you and I will be minority, along with all the other decent races we have in this country. These people are bad news. Im sorry, thats how I feel.

why don't YOU show YOUR compassion for these slugs and pay their bail so they can get back on the street with their 'brothers' and continue to work toward the destruction of America..... I hope they are each in a cell with a real nasty Bubba.

I don't feel better because I don't watch TV, I feel less stressed. As for news, or finding out info, I notice that you also spend time on DU and, assumably, other internet information sources. If you are depending on TV for your information, well... but you already know that.

I found my life immeasurably better when I got rid of the darned thing. I was less stressed, better informed and had more free time to pursue things that interested me. DO I miss out on the occasional conversation, maybe. As for shows, those that interest me are available to watch after the season is over and there are no commercials or schedules. It is one way of dealing with life and I mentioned it because I hadn't even considered it until someone mentioned it to me.

If you remember there was a study on this phenomenon in the last few years that linked authoritarian thought tendencies with over developed lizard brains (that is to say the part of the brain that is present in all vertebrates. Lizards lack the upper functions).

I tutored the women of an extended Somali family in English in Portland, and they would have been among the country's middle class. One adult son had been an English teacher in Somalia (he helped out the first couple of time I tutored his sisters and stepmother), another had been a computer programmer, and I don't know what the father was, but he spoke English, too.

The women were not as educated (although the teenage girls were in the so-called Newcomers' Program at a local high school), but they were pleasant and kind and had a great sense of humor.

Some of the sexist elements in their society were a little more than I could take, but on the whole, I liked this family.

Here in Minneapolis, I find the Somalis to be hardworking and ambitious. The bus that I take downtown stops at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, and there are always a lot of Somalis and West African immigrants at the bus stop. The Somalis are noticeable in retail and as bank tellers and bus drivers and as nursing home and day care workers.

Before the Star-Tribune disabled comments, I once heckled a racist by mentioning the number of Somalis at the MCTC bus stop and told him, "You may have a Somali boss some day."

And she will be teaching classes on health care, cooking and easy home therapies, as well as medical concerns in N. America versus Africa (for example colds are more frequent here because of recycled and heated air in the winter and yet parasitic infections are less common - it's a class about unwritten expectations).
