take it out, and the entire "Repuke-Job Creator-Trickle Down" bullshit goes with it. Seriously, a wingnut without the constant drumbeat of hate radio is nothing. If they ever wake-up one day, turn on their radio at any hour of the day, and fail to hear anti-Democratic garbage, they would react like the folks who are unplugged from the Matrix.
Hate Radio is the Key.

The Heritage Foundation Obama should have reinstated the Fairness Doctrine on day one. Sadly he did not.

6. I think you are right for many rural areas - there is nothing but hate radio |
|
And you know what amazes me most about it. At least in this part of the world in the places that are only served by one or two radio stations and maybe no TV at all other than satellite, hate radio is all there is, but the audience out there, for the most part, are Mennonites, Lutherans, and plain old born-agains. Just the sort of folks that you would expect to abhor hate radio. I have a radio out in my tool shed and its turned on all the time. I can not pick up a station that is not hell-bent right-wing 24/7.

all you can get. And it even gets worse as you head north from Breezewood to Altoona and then west on 422. Even Pittsburgh stations suck.

13. I would propose a simple "free market" solution |
|
If enough people were to "occupy" Clear Chanel, or the local offices of the local radio station that does nothing but "plug and play" wingnut idiocy 24/7, perhaps they would get the message that their toxic sewer of billious bullshitted hate speach was no longer profitable. Heck, they may even get the message that some opposing views would be even MORE profitable.
When so-called "free speach" does real harm to a community, then that community has a right...NO...it has an obligation to remove that harm.
Just think of the hundreds of thousands of jobs that could be created if, instead of having Limpballs, Insanity and the rest of the propaganda machine simply "plugged" in to a jack in the studio, you actually had real local people in the station.
Imagine that...local hosts talking about things that are important to the local community, hiring local researchers and journalists, using local program managers and local technicians, who need local electronic and eletrical technicians. It could be an explosion of job growth.
I'm shocked that a lot of these local stations even have a studio or an office anymore. Most all of them just simply flip a switch and pull down a steady stream of hate. One guy could do that at home in his pajamas.

because I don't think right-wing radio is all that profitable, BUT it has big money behind it.
I am not a conspiracy nut, but I find it hard to believe that Limbaugh makes $40 Milllion a year, and yet his advertisers are the Scooter Store, Gold-line, Lifelock, and the occassional Hair Club or Penile Dysfuction company. Not a GM, Chrysler, Ford, Apple, GE, or Merril Lynch within farting distance of him.
I would venture to guess that if you pealed the onion, you'd find billionaires like the Koch's and others that "endow" a billion here or a billion there to keep the whole thing running. Why wouldn't they? They profit more from the disinformation of the masses than they ever would from direct advertising.

12. Interesting Coincidence? |
|
The largest radio conglomerate, Clear Channel is owned by Bain Capital...the company formerly run by Mittens. Hmmmm...
Hate radio is slowly destroying itself as its audience has shrunk dramatically in recent years, but it still will remain a toxic cesspool of lies and deception. Just like other industries, radio desperately needs to be reregulate...but this administration won't rock that boat. Fortunately the Internet and the "people's microphone" provides some counterbalance.
