More geniuses at SFPD are demanding that OccupySF
take down a tarp over one occupier who is a Stage 4 cancer patient. It's drizzling in the city right now.

Is today Stupid Tuesday or what?

3. John Avalos has been the only supervisor (and mayoral candidate) that has
been responsive to these abuses.

Willie Brown destroyed this city.

7. What part of "reasonable accommodation" don't they understand?
Last time I checked, cancer was considered a disability. My friends at our sister organization in The City would be quite interested to learn of this.

Serve 'em right if they got whacked with a king-hell ADA lawsuit. :grr:

13. Care to elaborate?
She has as much right to freedom of speech as anyone else, and more reason to exercise it.

16. The requirement for no tents/tarps is not an inherent impediment to free speech
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 04:06 PM by ProgressiveProfessor
since tents do not constitute speech or an equivalent (like flag burning). Historically medical needs/accommodations do not figure into rules governing demonstrations.

That said, it still sucks that they are doing it.

17. Those are the kind of ridiculous, petty draconian actions that only serve to reinforce and justify
the need for the Occupier Movement.

Thanks for thread, EFerrari.

18. Do you know
if the problem is with the tarp being fixed or with the tarp in general?

If it is with the tarp being a fixed standing structure, you can sometimes get around that by having people take turns holding the tarp over her so she doesn't get rained on.

Poor lady.
