Social Security payments to see first increase since 2009
http://money.cnn.com/2011/10/18/news/economy/Social_security_cola_increase/

By Tami Luhby @CNNMoney October 18, 2011: 6:10 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Senior citizens are expected to get their first raise in two years.

Social Security recipients should get a cost of living adjustment of about 3.5% to 3.7% starting in January. The exact amount should be released Wednesday, when the government unveils the inflation index upon which the COLA is based.

6. That's what I was thinking Medicare usually takes a
good part of it back.

2. I just read it will be 3.6%
And in the meantime, they are still calculating how much Medicare will go up. My guess is, 3.6%+++ not that this is even the least bit legal.

Medicare is supposed to go up 3.6% according to the regulations, not that they are being followed!

Better than a kick in the butt at best eh?

:kick: in the butt ... ;)

5. From what I have experienced from my mother's SS is that
Medicare goes up a lot more than the COLA does. I can remember years when they took at least 1/2 her COLA increase for Medicare.

7. Premiums were frozen for the last 2 years
Newer enrollees (since 2010) are paying ~$115.00+ now.

If you are in it already, it is about $95.00 a month. If the premiums all go up, there will be no increase realized.

In my husband's case, he will get zero. :(
